GEORGIAN NO LONGER RECEIVED
BY SMITH'S MANAGER8.
Atlanta, Ga., May 26.—Gov. Smith**
headquarters today severed oTplomat*
lc relations with the Atlanta Georgian
and a reporter for that paper who
called, was Informed by Marlon Smith,
the Governor's son, that Smith head
quarters wished to have no fuFtber
communication with the Georgian un
der the present circumstances. He
said If the Georgian would come oht
squarely for Joe lirown, where It be-

glad to furnish it
basis with other papers. -
There was little news around eith
er of the headquarters today. Gov.
Smith and the other campaign speak-
era for Iwith sides are on the road
shelling the woods.
At Joe lirown headquarters, there
seems to he a feeling of satisfaction
with the situation and the force is
busy getting out a new lot of litera

TESTS DEMONSTRATED POWER
OF MODERN 8HIP8.
Fort Monroe, May 27.—In view of
many prominent naval officers and
my ordnance and artillery chiefs, the

ly conflict, firing at her turret artd new
military mast with twelve and four
teen inch projectiles, loaded with high
explosives.

ENGINEER OF MARIETTA
WRITE8 OF MR. BROWN.
The folowlng letter, wMch we are
kindly allowed to reproduce, was re
ceived by a prominent citizen of Way-
cross today. It speaks for Itself:
Marietta, Ga., May 25, 1908.
My dear Mr. .
Tour letter inquiring about Joe
Brown received, the people here think
he !■ capable and worthy In every re
spect. He Is a citizen of this place,
and with the exception of a few who
can give no satisfactory reason for op
posing him, the people of not only Mari
etta, but all of Cobb county are re
joicing over the bright prospect of
electing such a man for Governor.
The slander manufactured against
Joe Brown by the head and several
falls of the present state admlnlstra-
. Hen have no weight here, and we trust
f!<t* the good people throughout Geor
gia will not be Influenced by such ut
terly false statements.
Joe Brown already has a decided'ma-
later Investigations showed It was
materially Injured. The tests demon
strated the power of modern naval ord
nance and modern battleship con
struction.
Throughout the test the aim was re
markably accurate, the first shot hit
ting the mark and the ?econd shot 12
inches high. Tue explosive shell
struck true and exploded with terrific
force, fragments sweeping the entire
forward deck.
Tho concussion of shots on the Ar
kansas was terrific and every person
had to go under the armored deck for
protection from the fragments.
The way to keep hen* out of a gar
den Is to shoo them out every time
they come in to scratch up the tomato
and other plants. Stay in the garden
during the day and 'when a ben files
up on the fence shoo her before she
climbs down into the cucumber bed
It Isn't necessary to stay In the garden
all night as hens go home to sleep,
hen can’t sleep comfortably In
strange bed.
