BRANTLEY FOR LEADER.
Congressman John Sharpe Williams
of Mississippi, leader of tae minority
of the house of representatives, has
tendered Ms resignation to become
effective in Dctfrmber. Mr. "Williams
lias led the democrats In congress for
n number of years, and ho has proved
an able man In that position. By his
elevation to the position of United
Htates sou at or, no finds it necessary
to surrender the leadership and he
has decided to Jo so before the ex
piration of Ms term In that position.
The democrats at the approaching
session of congress will elect A
cessor to Mr. Williams. Many states,
of course, will present names for t

resentative of the democratic party.
