today. The flood yesterday was said
to be purely local. What the shower

burst. Still, the soaking was not- as |
bad as it mtghC have been, and no
damage of consequence was done.
Albany, Oa„ July 22.—Minor J. Win
chester, the. young clerk of the Cl'l-
sens First National Bank who disap
peared last Friday night, after an a!-
leged shortage In his accounts had
been discovered, returned to Albany
voluntarily this morning to face the
charges and attempt to muse good
the shortage.
He has been in Atlanta Blnce last
Saturday, he says, having registered

“When, 1 realised that the shortage
was about to be discovered,’’ said

nervous condition. I could not sleeu

and have been in the field since early

Up to the first of the month the in
spectors namod had their attention
brought to 1,055 cases, of which 672
were positive. The worst section yet
visited was in Emanuel county, where
In one town 42 of 43 oases Inspected
were positive. The Infection in tho
cases observed to date has been very
varied, running from light to heavy.
Pracltcally all negroes residing l n the
rural districts have or have bad the
disease, but appear to suffer but lit
tle from it.
Probably one of the worst examples
of what the hookworm will do for a
person was found by the Inspectors in
Dougherty county. A boy 10 years
old was found heavily Infected. Hol
weighed only 81 pounds, and ln height
measured but four feet, seven Inches.
His complexion was such a palor that
It could be easily told without an ex
amlnatlon that ho was suffering with
some kind of

force, such os was never deemed ne
cessary In tests and examinations.
Just before the accident the gun
was pronounced by oflleers to be In
proper condition.

and bracing air. Mountain climbing
is one of the pastimes oh the visitors

In April a coast
artillery officer on Inspection duty -c-
ported Its premature explosion was
beyond the range of possibility. Steps
will be taken at once to Improve the

disease. In another
county where the inspectors have
worked a boy 17 years old was found
wiii the disease. His height was
only four feet, one Inch, and his
weight was not quite 10 pounds.
Through the country school exam
ination a large per centage of infec
tions have been discovered. The In
spectors visit the schools and make
such examinations as are deemed ne
cessary, and report to the children's
parents, recommending that their fam
ily. physician be asked to treat the
case. In examining children it Is sta
ted that In every Instance, of ground
Itch the hookworm has been found.
In some older children the bookworm
infection has been Increasing for some

trouble than ordinarily.
Tho Inspectors who are now In Way-
cross will complete their work in this
section August 1, moving headquar
ters then to either Brunswick or Cam-
de„ county. The next beadquartera I
they will open will be at Savannah, 1
