COMMISSIONER STEVENS.
The thing which sticks In the craw
of Mr. Janies A. Perry, who want* the

now held by Hon. O. II. Steven*. Is
:!i.m Mr. Stevens hag been remarkably
puccessful in all his office seeking.
The people have endorsed him time
and again, sweeping hlrn Into office
wf»h majorities the like of whlcu no
other man In Georgia ever rolled up,
and manifesting their confidence In
him a* ofun a* the opportunity was
presented.
Mr. Stew n* I* a man close to the

Hut the spit-balls won't stick.- Mr.
Stevens has been | n public life too
many years not to have made ene- J
tries, and these are always much In I
evidence at election time. But they • Telephone 600
hardly create a ripple o n the surface
The fact remains, and will not down,
that Mr. Stevens has been a faithful
public servant. He has represented
the people, and not special Interests.
His reerd has “made him solid" with
the voters* and that Is what Is keep
ing his present opponent awake of

As a matter of fact, sulphur is a natural

THE BROWN RALLY.
There hag seldom been a more en
thusiastic and successful political
| meeting In this city than that under
the auspices of the Joe Brown Club
on Thursday night. It was apparent
from tno parade, the size of the meet
ing and the attplauEe wit j) which the
Kieeches were received that Governor
Brown had lost none of his popularity
In this county.
Some of the friends of Hon. Hoke
Smith had bee n talking of tho possi
bility of their candidate carrying the
county. They are not talking so free
ly that way now. It Is pretty safe
to say they will bo satisfied If he
succeed* in polling us many votes In
proportion to the registration as he
received two years ago. Ills friends
have been working hard for hltn, but
evidently they have made no headway,
the sentiment for Governor Brown
being to strong to be easily changed.
And as a matter of fact Savannah
and Chatham county have no com
plaint to innke of Governor Brown's
administration. It isn’t often that
Georgia lias an administration of
hleh so little fault can he found. The
'commendation which the Governor
•t made Imve been good and there
to doubt that the laws have hern
administered without fear or favor
0’td with n wisdom and promptness
that do not admit or criticism.
Confidence of capitalists In his ad-
nrtnlMration Is strong and Investments
or foreign capital nre Increasing. It
would have boon surprising therefore
If there had been lack of enthusiasm
or -.r a crowd at Thursday night’s
rally and meeting. If they count for
anything Gov. Urown need have no un-
«. incus respecting Chntlmm county.—
