Twelve persons were rescued from the upper stories of the building. The origin of the fire Is unknown. The alarm was given by passers-by who saw flames bursting out of the second-story window. Springfield, Ill., March 6.—The case of State Senator Pemberton and for mer Representative Clark, charged with conspiracy to bribe in connection with the contracts for furnishing the State capitol, was called for trial to day in the Sangnmon county court. This will be the third trial of the case. The first trial resulted in a Jury disagreement and the second trial was permanently ended by the death of a son of one of the Jurymen.
