known aa the man-bird as a result |
of the arlatlon meet last week.
The "meet" part was a great suc
cess, but the aviator wouldn't work.
The Valdostans were much chagrined
over tbe affair and feel that the av
iation people deliberately faked their
part of the contract. The event bad
coat Valdosta about (2,000 and they
advertised It In thalr best faith and,
of course. It should have been a great
drawing card. But the ysay tbe fly

liable to have soaked them. Anyway,
they couldn't fly or would not fly.
The eager spectators prodded one
man bird until he rose uncertainly
and flew into tbe fence, but as to
that aerial soaring—that most spec-

In this case It was not the success
of aviation that was at stake, It was
Valdosta's reputation for giving her
visitors all they they expect and a
little something extra. It la of little
consequence that a few be-drabbed
man-hlrds of uncertain pedigree
should wabble on their borrowed
wings, but that they should hold the
name of a proud city up tl the derls*
Ion o ftho farmers Is another matter,
In futuro any nnd all aviators had
better approach Valdosta with cau
tion, If at all; they'd better fly migh
ty high. In Valdoita's present state
of mind she couldn’t be held rcapon-
