The Ladies Union Mission Society
held its first quarterly meeting at
the First Methodist Church Monday
afternoon with a very interesting pro
gram on the study of Home Mission
work. The devotional services was
led b ythe president after which Mrs.
Seals and Mrs. Seaman reudered a
very sweet duet. Miss Emma Myera
made a very interesting talk on the
arious schools under the direction
f the Home Mission Society showing
jhow- they needed'our help to build up
land sustain these schools that these
j girls may be able to get an education
tnat will fit and prepare them to fight
lilt battles of this life.

Three out of the seven negroes ar
rested by Sheriff, on charges of gam
bling, were tried before Judge J. C.
McDonald/ today. The evidence wafc
extiemely questionable and after
hearing both sides the Judge dismiss-
the case and Solicitor A. B. Spence
noil prossed the other cases, so all
the negroes go free. Col. H. D.
Reed represented all the negroes.
The fifteenth annual convention of
the King’s Daughters and Sons of
Georgia will meet In Wayeross, at
the First Methodist Church on May
2nd and will continue to May 4th.
Many notable visitors will be pres
ent, and It will be a notable and im-
lortant occasion for .Wayeross. This
noble organization of consecrated
men and women are doing a grand
self-sacrificing work and we welcome
them to our city. The programme
promises a most Interesting occas

retted that the trial of John W.
Knignt will be reached in the United
States circuit court hero tills week.
H.o case, popularly known as ’the
•’-« Iton frauds” case, has attracted
national attention. ‘
Mr. Knight was the managing part
ner of the cotton firm of Knight and
Yt-ncey, which failed about a year
aro with Indebtedness amounting to
>ver $5,000,000. Soon after the col
lapse o fthe firm Mr. Knight was In
dicted on a charge of fraudulent uso
of the United S^ten malls.
