Washington, 8ept. 1.—The center of population of the United States was announced by Director of the Census Durand today to bo la the western part of Bloomington, Monroo county. Indiana. This Is eight miles further west than the'location announced Ju ly 17, when Director Durand placed It 4 1*2 miles south of Unlohvltle, in the same county. The exact longitude of tie center of population Is 88 degrees 32 minut es and 29 seconds, a difference of 9 seconds, or 8 miles front the previous announcement. Bloomington Is In Southern Indiana. Ten years ago the center of popula tion wa, 6 miles southeast of Colum bus, Ind.„ 39 miles east of It* new location. Sadie Marcha.it died Aug. 22 and was burled on the colony land by Gil- litt and a woman known as Sister Amanda. The officers wore notiflod of the occurrence and after nn Inves tigation arrested Olllett and tho Sears woman. They admit giving tho pois on, asserting that the victim was hopelessly ill with tuberculosis and wanted to die’ and escape from her sufferings. They acceded to her ap peals and gave her chloroform.
