V TUESDAY, SEPT.' , 12, IMt, lEMIHlOf HU LONG DISTANCE CALLS :<* - A new method of handling long dis tance calls from Waycross to points In Georgia and other states has re cently been introduced, and It is stat* ed that greater speed and efficiency la now possible. tinder the improved method the op erator In the distant city calls the Waycross party. If the Waycross par ty Is absent the operator leates word to call her. For instance, If you are called from Savannah and are temporarily absent from your office, word is left for you to "call the Savannah operator.' you fall to call the "Savannah opera tor" and simply call "Long DlKtance", difficulty and delay are likely to wit, because the Waycross operator does not know from what point you nre being called. Manager Henley states that the sue- • cess of this speedy method depends largely upon the co-operation of the subscriber. ‘ It Is essential that the name of the town be given when nakln-j Inquiry about a long distance call. All possi ble lost motion has been eliminated and by having calls handled by only one operator, the delny incident to passing calls to several operators Is avoided. In placing a lonr* distance call from Waycross to a distant point, "Long Distance" should be called In the us ual way. The long distance ,operator In Waycross records the 6a 11, but deals directly with the party In the distant city. Manager Hanley states that Way- cross is growing In Importance as a long distance centre, end he feels con fident that an Improvement will be noted Jn the service If subscribers will follow the suggestion? which are essential for the successful operation of the speedy method.
