Lambdin, on behalf of company, made a very earnest ap peal to Council on this matter and delivered > what was practically an ultimatum stating that the company could not accept the proposition and if city insisted upon it, they must withdraw from the matter and* let city bear brunt of publijc ; opinion. Mr. Lambdin insisted that the bonus asked* for is unreasonable and would absolutely discourage and prohibit the sale of the neces3ary bonds to build road. He read a number of telegrams from other cities, showing that the highest paid was 3 per cent and others less and in some cases none at all. Rome pays nothing; Cojumbus,/nothing; Jacksonvijle, 3 per cent; Athens 1 1-2 and 2 per cent; Macon, 2 per cent. Final Proposition, Finally Col. Lambdin stated com pany would agree to pay 10 to 20 years, 2 per cent; 20 to 48 years, 3 per cent, and this was the very best they cculd do, and they were earn estly desirous of building the road. Fred Brewer Postpones. Alderman Brewer movea to post pone for thirty days and meanwhile city tb thoroughly investigate other city franchises, and if in meanwhile company would not accept franchise as it stood, then let them forfeit to city the $1,000 bond, and let city sell franchise to highest ladder. Aider- man. Modre suggested a ten days postponement so that company would not have to forfeit the $1,000 bond, which becomes due city on Novem ber 13th. This was seconded. $1,00.00 Forfeit. REAL ESTATE BARGAINS, quarters by the Herald since this A LOT 70x100 FEET FOR $150.03 AND UPWARDS, ON MOST LIBER AL TERMS, NEAR, IN, AND IN A GOOD NEIGHBORHOOD CAN NOT BE FOUND EVERY DAY. BETTER ABOUT IT RIGHT matter came up, there Is do doubt but that Waycross people need and are demanding a street railroad. They are asking City Council to pro tect the valuable franchise as fai* as possible, at same time there is no Waycross citizen who would expect or require City Council to make such arbitrary requirements, as would bin der the building of the road. The need of the road is manifest, and the promoters are largely'local patriotic men and they should as far as pos sible be encouraged In the loudlble enterprise. The requirements of our growing city' and Justice demands ab solutely a square deal to all concern ed. The Herold feels sure that the Council and these gfntemeif can ad just this matter to the best interests of the city.
