fcCTIbN OP COMMITEe
ELIMINATES THE
p'ROHIBITiON QUESTION
The following timely editorial'Ap*
pea Vs in a;recent Isuse of the Albany
Herald;
"The action of tho State. Democratic
committee at its meeting yesterday,
refusing. to submit the prohibition
questi on to the voters of the State as
a separate Issue at the primary erec
tion ordered for tho 7th of December
to nominate .a governor and commis
sioner of commerce and labor, practi
cally eliminates the liquor question
from tho present campaign.
"As matters now stand,- and as tho^
must remain until after t:io Jfegiaiatur.»
Ja elected, prohibition can have no
legitimate place in our State politic*,
and those who continue to agitate ft
will bo merely riding a hobby horso
Nothing that the governor to be elec
ted In this special election could pos
sibly do would have tho slightest ef
fect upon the existing prohibition law
unless it should bo that tho chief
executive should use his official powej
for a more rigid enforcement of the
law*.
"Those who want to continue to
agitato the prohibition ‘ question can
do so, but such agitation can be of
avail," and tho application of either
the Stato-wfdo prohibition of the local
option yardstick to the gubernatorial
candidates would bo about as appro
priato nfe measuring timber by wat
llquld'ineasurc.
"The State Democratic committee
having refused to provide for th<
submission of the prohibition question
to the people of tho State, we had
well cut It. out of the campaign
entirely as extraneous of the question
at the tlmo can vail nothing."
Thousands of peach trees in Middle
