The Georgians will hold their regular
meeting Friday afternoon at 3:30 at
the Y. M. C. A parlor. The after
noon will be taken up with the study
of Mexico. Three interesting papers
will be read on, “Ancient Mexico'’,
“Texas In Old Mexico," and “The
Republic of Texas.”

The seven o'clock luncheon was a
success. Quite a largo crowd of

and stores enjoyed the hospitality of
Mrs. Jack Phelan and her assistants,
Mesdames Fred Brewer, Bob Odom,

W. Bellinger assisted by Mrs. O’Quinn
and Mrs. Hendrix.

was that all were served and nothing

John Singlzer. who was arrested
several days ago on advices from Buf
falo, N.. V., was released this morn
ing on habeas corpus proceedings be
fore Judge B. H. Thomas. Col. H.
M. Wilson and A. B. Estes represent
ed Singlzer. The girl that was taken
•in custody at the same time was also
released. An officer from Buffalo was
axpected to arrive today, but so far
he has not put in an appearance.

BEATTIE TO BE PLACED
IN “MURDERERS ROW.”
Richmond, Va., Nov. 7.—Unless the
State Supreme Court of Appeals
grants a new trial for Henry Clay
Beattie,* Jr., before tomorrow, the
young man, convicted -of the murder
of his wife, will be moved from the
Richmond city-jail to murderers Vow
in the death house at the state pent-
tentiary. According to the law a
inan condemned to electrocution must
be lodged in the penitentiary fifteen
days before the date set for his death.
The court, which has under advise
ment Beattie’s petition for a writ of
terror, sits tomorrow but may not
give its decision. If it should not
deplde the appeal before the date sot
for the. execution, that would act
astay.
JOHN 8MITH, MORMON
PATRIARCH, 18 DEAD.
Salt Lake City, Utah, NoV. 7.—John
Smith, for thirty years the presiding
patriarch of the Mormon Church, and
nephew of its founder, and first presi
dent, Joseph Smith, is dead here after
a three-day’s Illness of pneumonia
He was 79 years of age.
Smith was born at Kirtland, Lake
county, Ohio, lnl832, and whuff 10
years of age came West with the
hand cart party, passing through
Xauvoo, Ill., the scene of the attack
which resulted in the death fit hi*
father and his uncle the preceding
year.
Patriarch Smith was the sixth to ==:
