PEOPLE'S LIBERTIES
MUST BE SUPREME.
| On being asked by The Constitution
by long Distance Telephone at his
home'In Marietta last night for a
statement concerning the reaiflts of
the day's primary, Joseph M. Brown,
for the second time named for the
governorship of Georgia, dictated the
following reply:
VI am not surprised at the result,
hut I confess that I did not expect the
victory to bo ao sweeping. When T
consider the perronnel of the support
1 received in all parts of the state 1
accept the yerdlct as a command from
tho people of Georgia that factional*
isrti must cease, and ?Tiat the people
of the state must unite on the ever
lasting prinepie of the protection o r .
litefr soverigflty. I shall obey this
mandate as I will every other one re
ceived from the eoverign people.
“I desire to extend my profound
thanks to all those who have so kind
ly contributed to the result. It Is not
n^ victory—it is the victory of the
people—and in many respects
most notable ever won by the people
of Georgia. I am simply an Instru
ment used to express their resent
ment at any, lnterfernce with their
liberties, and my election means that
the rights and the liberties of the peo
ple of Georgia cannot hereafter be
trifled without the certainty of
public condemnation."
