THERE 18 NOTHING NEW.
King Solomdn was conceded to be a
■well posted man, and he it was who
declared that “there is nothing new
under the sun”. The bird-men who
imagine that they are mastering tho
air In such a marvelous manner are
reminded that the first successful fly
ing madilhe was operated by an in
ventor near the city of Jerusalem
about the year 34 B. C.
Just why the first “bird-man" failed
to startle the world does not appear
in any work of science that wo have
ever seen, but It is probable"that tflTe
Inventor attempted to perform aa
“ocean wave" stunt and discouraged
all other aspirants In the aerial field.

business. until a few years ago, ex

undertaking of any bird-man was that
of Walter Wellman last year, who
advertised the Intention of spanning
old ocean. Walter failed to span very
far, however, and there are hundreds
of well Informed people who do not
believe that he bad any Intention of so
doing. He made a start, got caught
In a whirlwind, and landed safely on
the detk of a great vessel sufficiently
able to provide occommod&tions for sev
era! air crafts. It Is up to some en-
r
terprising aviator to take a flight
greater than the average State fair
attraction and in a few months it will
be dons.

8ays.
The pale, wistful faces and thin
spindjing limbs of “delicate children"
tell plainly enough the story of poorly
nourished bodies.
We know Just what ought to ba
done for such children. Here is a
letter from Richard Rush, Columbus,
Ind., saying “I believe I am indebted
to Vinol for the health of my little
son. He had a seveVe attack of
whooping cough and measles w^ich
affected his lungs and constitution.
“We tried several other remedies
without any result, then commenced
using Vinol, and I take pleasure in
saying that he is the picture of health
now, due to the use of Vinol."
Sickly children need the strengthen
ing cod liver elements and the tonic
iron that Vinol contains—that Is wliy
Vinol builds them up quickly and
gives them a fine healthy color. It

PEOPLE RULE AGAIN
A88ERT8 GOV. 8LATON.
On being seen last night by a Con
stitution representative and asked for
a statement of the resuit of the guber
natorial primary, Governor John M.
Slaton wrote the following statement:
“I love the old map of Georgia mor«
than ever. It has a * greater slgnlfi
canco as the result of this primary.
“I believe the election of Joseph M.
Brown means the establishment of
Georgia in the confidence of the na
tion. ■
“It means the exaltation of the quiet
noble, splendid^ virtues of every true
Georgian, native and adopted, who
discharges without display the duties
of life.
“It means the commendation of the
faithful official whflm ambition nor
power could corrupt.
“It means the vindication of the Ju
diciary and thunders the demand of
the peopie that the ermine shall be
pure and the fountains of Justice un
contaminated. ' .
It means that the home and fire
side have declared In favor of quiet,
forceful and conservative government,
without outocracy or vindictiveness.
“It means the demand of the people
that they shall be restored to control
of their own affairs and the choice of
their own officials.
/ “It means that m n In office have
enlored into a contract with the peo
ple that tbe£ shall retain the election
positions without regard to the en
ticement of U more alluring prize.
'It mean* that the electors of tho
state love honest, uncontrolled, capa
ble officials, whose conduct measures
up to the loftiest ideals of this grand
old state, and whose sympathies are
in accord tylfh its history and insti
tutions. •>
\ “Finally, I believe the election of
Governor Brown will heal old scars,
created without cause. Extremist# of
both sides may continue their bitter
ness, but the great mass of citizens
of this state will be open-minded and
clearoyed In measuring the past,
inulctfog condemnation only ' where
deserved. Without regard to faction,
they will he ready to impartilly con
tribute their efforts to build up their
state.

A big impetus will be given the sec
ond annual South Atlantic Corn Expo
sition today when tho Southern Beil
Telephone Company delivers a mes
sage to more than 100,000 business
men, farmers and leading citizens,
urging their interest and attendance
The message will be telephoned by
managers and other representatives of
the Southern Bell Telephone Company
and will reach practically the entire
telephone-using population of North
nnd South Carolina and Georgia.
The message is as follows:
“The second annual South Atlantic
Corn Exposition will be held in Co
lumbia, S. C., December 11th to 16th
Inclusive, under the* auspices of the
Department of Agriculture of the
State of South Carolina. This expo
sition will encourage diversified farm
ing and will tend to check the spread
of the boll weevil. It will also bo of
benefit to the State in many other
ways. Fof this reason the Southern
Bell Telephone Company is assisting
the Agricultural Department of tbs
State In this matter by extending to
you an urgent Invitation to attend tho
exposition. They deslro as many
county exhibits as can be ha.d and th.
attendance of as many Boy’s Corn
Clubs as possible. Your presence at
the exposition as well as your co-op
eration in arousing widespread inter
est In this enterprise will be apprecla
ted by the Commissioners in charge
of the expostlon as well as by tho
Telephone Company.”
In no other way could such a large
number of people be communicated
with so quickly at such small cost.
The rapid development of the tele
phone in the rural sections of these
states has made it possible to reach
more than 20,000 farmers and their
families through the Bell system, and
this new use of the telephone Is an
other demonstration of Its value and
necessity.
A personal message from the State
Department of Agriculture deliverer
In this direct manner will appeal to
these -formats, and the„ Indications
are that the attendance ot the Corn
Exposition prill be greatly Increased.
