(Valdosta Times.)
The people of Valdosta were sur
prised and shocked early this morn
ing at the announcement of the death
of Mr. W. L. Thomas, one of the ofiT-
est and most highly respected citizens
of Valdosta, at hfs home some time
between midnight and three o'clock.
He was found dead In bed by Mrs.
Thomas about three o’clock this morn
ing. The body was still vrarra and It
was evident that life had been extinct
only a short while.
His death occurred peacefully and
w ithout a struggle. He had been suf
fering with a cough and had a cough
ing spelt about twelve o’clock. Mrs.
Tlibmns got up and gave him a cough
drop which he took and went- back to
sleep without coughing again. He ap
parently rested well nnd there was
nothing more thought of him until
Mrs. Thomas woke up about three
o’clock. He was so still that she got
up to Investigate and found that ho
was dead.
His death was caused by heart
trouble with which he had suffered for
two or three years. For a long time
h!s condition was so serious-that it
was expected that he would die at any
time. Ve got much better and had
been coming up town every good day
for several weeks. While his condi
tion was known to be very serious
there was nothing to indicate That The
end was so near at hand. Two or
three years he went on a Ashing and
hunting trip to Florida ahT! caught a
very severe cold which developed Into
la grippe and It was feared that he
would die before he reached home.
Since'then he has been declining in
health and has been almost constantly
under the care of a physician. f
