A RACE AFTER
THE VESTIBULE
.All the Way from St. Louis an Hour

at Waycross!
A few days ago the A meric us
paper published an account of a
-special train from St. Louis pur
suing the vestibule from that city
with a wealthy mau nnd two phy
sicians en route to Florida where
the man’s) daughter was seriously
ill.
The account said that the special
left St. Pouis one hour behind the
vestibule and -when it arrived at
Indianapolis, it was still an hour
bemud. At Muuiphis, Ciratiuno-J
ga, and Atlanta the same distance
was between the two trains.
At Maoon it was not more than
20 minutes, but lost time there,
j>ut it again an hour behind the
-vestibule.
At Americas it was reported
still an hour in arrears, but the
Americus paper stated that be
tween that oityand Albany the
train overtook the vestibule and
passed it.
This was not the case. The
train rolled into Albany one hour
-behind aad not till engineer Will
Potter with engine 408 got straight
behind it on the B. A W. did the
speoial ever catch the vestibule
and that was at Waycross where

J. B. I’ost, a farmer of New
York state according to a New
York paper tied his wife to a post
in his barn and allowed a savage
bull to gore her to death. It is
said he was jealous of the woman
aud quarrelled with her, after
which he tied her and had the bull
kill her. He is now in jail closely
guarded to save him from the men
who were his friends and asso
mates, but who now would expose
to him the Bamo atrocious fate he
meted out to his wife.
Post confessed hie horrid crime
to bis brother. An effort will be
made to prove him insane, and on
that slender chanco his life de
pends, for either his infuriated
neighbors or the Jaw will enforce
the extreme penalty.
The horrible discovery of the
womans, mutilated body was made
by the postman. Id the bull pen
he saw the body of Mrs. Post,
horribly mangled. Above her
stood the great bull, with lowered
horns still directed to the body
that lsy at the foot of a stake,
about which broken ropes still
huug.
The situation exposed the whole
tragedy*. The woman had been
bound fast to the upright, with a
red calibo apron tied about her,
and the boll that waa tethered in
Tim pen bad been let loose. The
red aprpn made it certain that
the savage aqimaP SrouW-rpttaok.
The frantic.'-charges' of the bull
bad broken the cord* that bound
the woman and let her down to
the floor or the pen, aud the bull
had gored her again and again.
All through the night the bull
had tossed and mangled the body.
Mr. J. W. Moore went down to

to nurse the two. The Biok ones
ore reported better.

Orttlns Into Morel Debt.
Philip D. Armour, millionaire and
philanthropist, continually warned
young men against getting Into debt'
Ho loved free mCn and despised slaves.
When nskod If he admired n certain
brilliant orator, ho said: “Ho may hnve
a superb voice nnd flno presence, but
can’t you hear the rattle of his chain?
That man Is not free. Ito Is under
moral obligations that demoralize him.
Ho Is not speaking the deepest thing In
his soul, and I haven't time to hear any
slave talk. I want, a man to bo Just as
free as 1 nin."
On another oeenslon be said: "Don't
get Into debt—I mean moral debt It
Is bad enough to get Into debt finan
cially. There goes a young man who
Is mortgaged. That young man Is leg
ging It clang with n debt, and It will
tako twice as much power to get him
along as the man without a debt
Thera nro other debts and obligations
that nro embarrassing In their entan
glements. Don't get Into debt morally,
my boy; don't get Into debt ao that you
may not exercise your freodom to Its
limits."

How Plowfr Hernia May Be Obtained
In Three War*.
Pure violet practice Is wild to bo es
pecially suitable to nervous people, but
It must be obtained from tbo flowers
themselves, not from the chemical Imi
tations. Chetnlcnlly derived perfumes
nre Irritant, poisonous even, to persons
of espoclally sensitive constitution.
True flower scents nro obtained In
throe ways—flrst, by spreading fresh
blossoms upon glass thickly smeared
with pure grease, letting them stand In
tho sun nnd as they wilt replacing
them until tho greaso Is ns fragrant as
the flowers; second, by repeatedly In
fusing fresh petals In oil, nnd, third,
by Infusing them In ether, which is
then distilled to a dry sofld.
As this solid sells for Aout $250 an
ounco It Is easy to understand why the
ether process, though far and away the
best. Is not commonly used. But, the
scented grease and the essences made
by steeping It In puro spirit nro never
cheap. After all tho scent posslblo has
been extracted from the greaso it is
still fragrant enough to make tbo very
finest perfumed soap.
All tbo citrine scents, bergamot, no*
rol, orange flower water, are refreshing
and in a degroo stimulating If properly
prepared. To mako a lasting perfume
some animal base is essential—musk,
civet or ambergris.
