The verdict of the coroner’s
jury Sunday was that Smith had
boon unlawfully slain by Sheriff
Lyons and his son, Archie. Tho
officers will be tried upon the
charge of murder at the March
term of Wayne Superior Court,
according to present plans.
Owing to the arrest of Sheriff
Lyons it lias been necessary to
deputize Mr. Joe Lee. newly
elected sheriff, ns sheriff of
Wayne county. Mr. Lee’s term
of office begins January 1st.
