Quitman, Ga., Dec. 26.—De-
presed because he was in bad
financial shape, and could not
provide the usual Christmas pres
ents for his children, C. A. Rast
ers, a farmer living near this city
took his own life yesterday morn
ing.
The farmer was a man of some
thirty-five years and had a wife
and several children. lie is said
to have been deeply involved and
could not meet his obligations.
This depressed him and when the
Christmas season drew near and
ho could not provide the psual
Christmas treat for the members
of his family, the faet preyed up
on his mind to sueh an extent
that he decided not to live on
longer. Yesterday morning he
went about his farm duties as us
ual and when through went to a
spot some fifty yards away from
the house and deliberately pre
pared for death. First cutting a

Sunday morning she did not ap
pear at the breakfast table, and
when a member of the family
went to her room'It was found
to be empty. The bed hail not
been used except for a short
time, ar.d then only to lie across
it.
, A search was instituted and
neighbors for two miles or more

search was in vain until today,
when the almost frozen girl was
found in the old wagon bed.
The girl is the niece of Mr.
Beverly, one of the best and most
prominent citizens of this county,

secured contract with the Georgia
& Florida railroad for the re
grading tnii straightening of
portion oi the line south of Ha-
ziehurst, which is a part of the
general scheme of the road for
overhauling the road lied on the
entire system.
The contractors are now adver
tising for 300 hands to begin
work on the overhauling of the
truck to the twentieth mile post,
south of Hazlchiirst. It is under
stood to he the intention of the
Georgia & Florida to straighten
the road bed, re-grading it and
putting in m the very best condi
tion the entire distance from Ila-
zlchurst to Madison, Flu. When
tliia work is completed the exten
sion of the lim north of Ilazle-
liurst to Augusta will be com
pleted.

the shape of a watch charm from
forty conviets working in the coal
mines of Walker county.
The note which accompanied

and taken from his home to the
woods by some ten masked men
and severely whipped because lie

Nusbaum is reported to have
been the victim of an attempted
kidnapping plot at Shoshewnna,

her but on her arrival there she

completely segregated and the
Frisco will form a close alliance
