anything she wanted to.
When Miss Bock was 18 years
she one day became overheated
and drank a large quantity of wa
ter. Rhe was ill for a time, and
when she -begin to recover she
became afflicted with the belief

WENT'A DIVORCE?
00 TO ATLANTA.
Atlanta, Dee. 9.—Atlanta ia
preparing to re-eatabliah her ti
tle thia week aa the Reno of the
Sonth, with tbe heavieat raperior
court divorce docket in her hie-
tory.
With more than 600 divorcea
already granted in 1913, the pree-
ent calendar haa 179 more, and
before tonight it ii believed the
total will run to nearly 200.
Only a amall proportion of the
principals in the divorce caaea
are life-long Atlantiana. The re
mainder are made up of that
floating population that comes
and goea from year to year.
Atlanta ia suffering apparently
not ao much frim the incompati
bility of its married couples as
from the fact that Georgia Is an
extremely easy atate to get a di
vorce in.
There ia an undefended divorce
auit law by which if the iieraon
sued cannot be found, the serving
of the papers can he made lawful
aimply by publication. Then the
divorce ran go on, and a wife who
haa a husband in Indianapolis or
Hong Kong ran get a divorce in
Atlanta while the husband per-
haps may not know that the pro
ceedings are going on at all.
Nearly^JJL the divorces are baa
ed on the atoek charges of cruel
treatment and desertion, or non
support in some form or other.
The ones which charge in''dolity
are not nearly so numerous at
those which charge cruel treat
ment.

KAISER PUTS BAN ON
TANGO; BERLIN 80RRY
Berlin, Dec. 8.—The recent
edict of the Kaiser forbidding
army officers to dance the tango
or visit families where it ia apt t<
be danced haa practically killer’
the dance in Berlin society, and a
host of tango teachers',’ who rad
denly cropped up here, when the
craze began, are zaying very
harsh words about the Kaisei
and Kaiaerin, for everybody
convinced that it was she who
prompted.tbojfoinec. to ostrasiw
a dance which she consider* de
basing and unwomanly. Strong
words, however, eannot alter thi
fact that the tango teachers an
getting no new pupils and tha'
their present pupils are deserting
for German girls are nearly al
secretly hoping to catch officer-
for husbands, and their favorite
hunting ground is the ballroom
They see no sense in wnatinc
their time learning a dance which
is forbidden to officers. This to
gether with the fact which I men
tioned in a former letter, that thi
tango is not a dance that J grci.--
with the beer-drinking Teuton)
will very soon make Berliner)
forget even the name of the dance
so much more as reports from
Paris agree that the popularity o'
the tango is on the wane then
too.

Food Inspectors
Have Completed
Their Work Here
For the Present
State Pure Food Inspector P.
A. Methvin and Dr. R. C. Hutch
ens, an expert from the Georgia
Department of Agricnlture, have
completed their work for the
time being in Waycrou and have
returned to Atlanta.
• A detailed -report 'of-their-in
spection and work in Waycross
-a being prepared for President
M. M. Johnson, of the Ware Coun
ty Medical Society, and will be
published in the Journal,for the
information of the eitixena of
Waycross. This report will show
how thoroughly the inspectors
conducted thsir work while in
Waycross and will tell of the con
ditions they found.
The Medical Society will get
right in behind tbe pure food
movement and hopes to have the
hearty co-operation ot the citi
zens generally. The cause is con
sidered a vital one and one in
which every citizen should have
an interest. Conditions here are
as bad as the inspectors report
ed. But they will not remain ao
any longer than can be helped.
It is understood that the in
spectors wiUjgeturn to Wsycroar
at a later date to aid the kedi-
cal society in tbe pare food cam
paign and if necessary they will
return on an instant’s notice
when notices given by them to the
pure food law violators are disre
garded. The disposition on tig
part of anyone not to comply with
the ordera of the inspeteora will
bring them back and it ia hinted
that the return of the inspectors
in such instances will not be en
joyable. u j |
