DB. and'Mrs. James Webb, of Whigham, announce the engage
ment of their daughter, Winnie Pope, to Mr. Jack Peebles,
Jr., the wedding to take place in January. :
The bride-elect, whose childhood days were spent in Monti
cello and who, since her residence in Whigham, has been a
charming visitor here, has many friends and relatives here who
feel a deep interest in this announcement.

MOORE-JORDAN.
A quiet home wedding was that of Miss Margaret Moore and
Mr. Nevin Jordan, which took place at the home of the
bride Sunday afternoon. ' The ceremony was performed by the
Rev. Dr. Richard Orme Flinn in the presence of the immediate
family. Mrs. Jordan is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James A.
Moore. She wore a blue cloth, with a Georgette crepe blouse
and hat to match. !
Mr, and Mrs. Jordan left for a visit to relatives in Monti
cello before going to*Charleston, where they will reside.—At
lanta Georgian, December twenty-sixth.
The announcement of this marriage came as a pleasurable
surprise to many friends in Monticello, the old home of the
groom.
Mr. Jordan and his lovely bride reached Monticello on the
evening of the twenty-fifth and while here were guests of Mr.
Jordan’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. A. H. Jordan.
They are making their home in Charleston, South Carolina,
where Mr. Jordan is connected with the Swift Packing Com
pany and whither the best wishes for the greatest happiness
from a large circle of relatives and friends accompany them.

MITCHUM-STUDDARD.
A pretty December wedding was that of Miss Eddie Lou Mitch
um and Mr. Lee Studdard which was solemnized at North
East Sunday School, Rev. W. C. Ivey officiating.
Just before the ceremony Mrs. T. S. Malone sang “Be
cause.” Mrs. J. E. Hill played the bridal march and rendered
soft music during the ceremony. The attendants were Miss
Rosa Mitchum with Mr. Ray Studdard, and Miss Myrtle Beasley
with Mr. Clarence Wilson. The bride looked lovely in a chic
going-away gown of gray with hat and gloves to match and car
ried a feathery shower bouquet. The bride’s maids wore be
coming tailor suits of blue. The bridal party stood beneath a
triple arch of Southern smilax dotted with pink and white chry
santhemums and lighted by.numerous small candles. The
decorations were beautiful in every detail.
" Miss Mitchum is the eldest daughter of Mr. Clifford Mitch
um and is quite a favorite here. They received many useful
and beautiful presents among which was a lovely white and
gold dinner set, gift of Miss Mitchum’s Sunday School class.
Mr. Studdard is a prosperous young business man of Rut
ledge, where they will be at home to their friends.

MR. and Mrs. Clark Pope entertained at a lovely dinner on
Wednesday during the Christmas holidays when they had
as their guests Mr. and Mrs. James J. Pope, Mr. and Mrs. W. J.
Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Percy Pope, Master James Pope, Master
William Pope, Mrs. Frankie Wilburn, Miss Esther Wilburn, Mr.
Harvey F. Persons, Mr.'Grady B. Kinard, Mr. Hollis T. Pope.

In Honor Miss Harrell. :
MISS Josie Harvey entertained most delightfully a number of
friends last Friday evening in honor of her guest Miss Anna
“Harrell, of Fredericksburg, Virginia. ‘
Rook was played until a late hour and at the conclusion of
the interesting game delicious refreshments were served.,
Miss Harvey was assisted in serving by her mother, Mrs. J.
D. Harvey, and her sister, Mrs. Clark Smith.
The decorations were unusually pretty, consisting of
Christmas bells, holly and poinsettas, and the occasion was a
beautiful compliment to a charming visitor.

Dinner Parties for
College Set. :
THE college boys and girls wh'o'-.‘were at home for the holidays‘
were given a round of dinner parties which added greatly to
the pleasures of their stay. Mr. Carl kl?n@ of Waycross,
shared the honors of each occasion. ¢..
On Monday night the happy crowd was first %:abjgéfié‘;t
the lovely home of Mrs, J. D. Persons where they were beauti
fu!ly entertained.
~On Tuesday Mrs. Howard Persons was the gracious hostess

, Thursday completed the round with Mrs. J. B. Persons the
~cordial hostess. Mrs. Persons entertained at a lovely six o’-
clock dinner in courses and was assisted by her daughters, Miss
Ethel Persons and Miss Finney Persons,

curred in Cross Hill, 8. C., Wednesday
afternoon. Rev. James Bradley left
Thursday morning for Cross Hill to
join Mrs. Bradley, who has been at her
mother's bedside for several weeks,
and to attend the funeral.

& Company, at City Point, Virginia,
visited Monticello relatives during
the Christmas season. His friends

teaching at Union Point after visiting
her parents, Mr. and Mrs. E H.

Mr. Black and Miss Leila Black, of
Gainesville, returned home Saturday
after a visit to Mr. H. A. Black at the
home of Mrs. W. H. Pye,
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Collier have
moved to Atlanta. During their stay
in Monticello they made many friends
who reluctantly give them up as citi
zens.
. Mr. H. M. Jenkins, of Waycross, has
accepted a position with the J. H.
Kelly Company, being in charge of the
dry goods department. Mr. Jenkins
is an experienced salesman and is a
young man of excellent character.

Boy Killed By Another
At Target Practice
Accidental Discharge of a Shotgun
Proves Fatal to Youth.
RIFFIN, Ga., Dec. 30.—Elbert Hub-
G bard was instantly killed at
Vaughn, 9 miles northwest of Griffin,
at 4 o'clock Friday afternoon by the
accidental discharge of a shotgun in
the hands of Paul Middlebrooks, both
boys about fifteen years of age and
members of prominent Union district
families. They were shooting at a
target in the yard of John Norton.
