sions About the New Court House
The propositicn ta build a new
court house is being generally dis
cussed throughout the county, and
almeost everybody is taking a lives
ly m'erestin it.
The sentiment in favor of a de
cent court honse is growing, aund
the NEws is of the opinion that it
will not be a great while hefore all
of the pro:ressive citizens of the
county will be ananimously in tu
vor of it.
There seems to be an impression
amonz some thatit is proposed to
raisethe whole amount BEerslary
to build a new court house in one
year. Thisis not the case.
It is proposed to issue bonds
and pay oue thousand dollars of the
debt yearly uutii it is wiped out.
This plau, as will he readily seen,
wil not materially increase taxes
and will place part of the debt on
citizens who will become of ¢
ten, fifteen and tweuty yeuars ‘rom
to~day
It could be easily huilt on this
plan, as the iocrease in taxes
would not exceed 25 cents on the
$l,OOO.
The folowing is what those in
terviewed this week says:
Frank Bethue: Put oue where
the Ordirary’s offie now st.nd-.
Let the city donate enoursh of
Main street to brias the square on
a line and then 12t the county soll
off lots trom the artosian well to
the court house. Lnts 30 Ly (0
feet would bring a good price and
go far towards payiug for a good
court house. Leta lane run in
the rear of the lots aud the square
be used as a pmk tor the count
house. Issue Londs tor the bal.
ance needod.
E. B. Bridges: T believe if it is
lett to a vote we would hiveit and
I've been expecting it a long time.
Dennis Brim: Give usa new
court house.
J. J. Melain: T would iike to
see Terrell witit & new court hovse
J.E. Newuverry: Weshould have
a 825,000 court house right away.
dohu Whitchard: 1 am devided
ly in favor of it.
J.J. Bradley: We could build
one and the tax payers would no
know it,
J. B. Roberts: We ought to
have it.
Mayor Laing: T'm willing,
L. C. Durbam: We must have
a 4 new one,
W e should have a new one, and
we've got a mighty €rsy Wiy to
pay forit, says J. C. Gueery,
A. B. Hay: I'm i for it.
M. 8. Kcith: We need it,
Matthew Marshall: Don't have
it until we can pay cash tor it.
Dock Melton: If we are able to
build it, go abead. T beleve in u
good one when we start, It spesks
well for a county to havea goodl
court house. 1 thi k, thou_b,
that we should wait awhile.
E. T. Keuney: We ueed it.
A. I Biitt: T don't olject.
Isanc Hay' It we ever intend
having a decent coust house now i,

Tax Receiver Hartis: Tam do
cidedly in favor ot a new court
bou-e and a nice one at thut.
W. H. Gammage: We could
not spend mouey more judiciousy
than putting 1t in & Lew court
