The fourth ot July is tast aps
Pproaching, aud the question should
be presented and decided vron
now before it is to late to nike
ruitable preparations. If we re
member corvectly, it was the intens
tion of'the old solliers to have a
reunion and biz dinner in Dawson
on that day. Let us understand
each other in time, and it we do
decide to celebrate, lets bezin in
lime to make complete prepara
tions, It would be well not to
retrograde from the old time-hon

R
THE WAGES OF SiN.
Miserable Sequel tc the Elopement of Hen
ry W Boore and Mrs. Xorton.
Theatrical people throughout the
country, and to aless extent the
general pullic, were interested a
months ago in the news of the elo
pement of the wife of J. W. Nors
ton, a well known theatrical man
ager in St. Louis and the owner of
several theatres, with IHenry W,
Moore, managing editor one of the
leading St. Louis newspapers. Af
ter the affair-had blowun over some
what they drifted to this city, and
Moore secured en:ployment upon
the World. The proprictor of the
werld is 2lso the proprietoe of the
St. Louis paper, of which Moore
was managing editor Lefore he ran
oft with his friend’s wite,
The couple had dropped out ot
sight entirely until on Sunaay the
Bt. Louis Globe Democrat printed
a story to the effect that Moore had
deserted the woman. Ie had
intended, the story went, when he
left St. Louis, to merry her assoon
as possible, but during hislite with
her here, he had discovered that
she was capable of unfaithfulness
to her lover as well as to her hus
band. Moore had thereupon, it
was said, thrown her over for good, |
Mrs, Norten last night, at her‘
home at 145 East Fortyseight
street, had already heard of the pub
ication in the Globe Deirocrat. She
had been ill, shesaid irom nervous
excitement. Her hair was in a
lose, d sordered coil on top of her
bead,'her big blue eyes were heavy,
her face pale and her dress in (is
order, but she still retained
much of the beauty that helped in
other days to gain her fiiends and
popularity. Sbe refused at first to
rpeak of her.relations with Moore.
Her affairs had been too a notorious
already, she said. Pressed to give
explanation of the severance of her
relation with Moore and of his
charges in relation to it she finally
consented to talk,
“Desertion,” she remarked. “Mr.
Moore is not here, it is true, but
there has been no desertion; st
least he did not desert me. I tur
ned him out of the house. I had
stood it as long as I could and I
told him I would live with him no
Jonger. Be may say he doesn't
want to. Perhaps we were both
disgusted with our life. We might
well be; but he did not desire me.
Now having done to me the greats
est injurya man can do toa wo
man heis trying to vindicate him.- |
seltby pulling me down; that is
all. What use would it be for me
to defend myself ? lam the wos
man in thethbe case; nothing can
help me. Besides he is a news
paper man and his side will be the
one the public will hear.”
For a Bt. Louis paper Mrs.
Norton or Mrs. Moore as she bas,
Deen known since she came to this
city, told a more detailed story in
which she acuses Moore of having
abused her and made her life mis< |
erable by his insanc jealousy.— |
