A Beic Scheme Played by a Feliow und;

The m=on industry in Terrell
has a¥out played out,and shipments
from here. this season have not |
amounted to anything at all. Bron-|

The following letter, dropped by

Albany News :
New York, June 25, 1889.
My Dear Rosy:—llow much?
Bay; but do not write it, as 1 hace
the faintest idea where to reach
you. Youare doing very well,
but melovs are cheap, and unless
you can get large oues it won't|
pay nwuch. Now, for instance, |
some of the melons you shipped
here sold for 15¢ snd some for
more, bt Jack and Sam are on the
dock ail ¢av and melons sell hard.
It is poor policy to wire me about |
?efling my bauk to wireother banks
They kick likc l—l. I wircd bank |
ot Americus that I would pay your
draft for $2OO wul then wired you. |
Be careful, Rozy, and dow’t come
home until you get at least 25 or
40 more cars. Now please re-!
member what I say, [ know you'
can do it. Get them to ship by a
Bavannah steamer, as the ireight
is 825 cheaper. Go from place to
place and get all you can.
* * * % * *
There is about $2,000 in New
York bank and $l,lOO in New
_Hauover, which shows a decided
imprevement. .My liabilities are
about three hundred and no more,
Don't you think that pretty good?
But belicve me,Rosy,
Yours sincerely,

The citizens of Le county are de

School Savings’ Banks.
An interesting and instructive
account of school savings’ banks is
given by the Chicago Inter Jecan.
The first of these banks, according
to the Inter Ocean, *‘ws?, cstablighs
ed in Ghent prior to 1873,in which
Year 11,032 pupils were depositors.
A very simple scheme is followed.
To‘each pupil is given a blank
book bearing his or her name,
With ruled columns tor montbs and
weeks, in which entries ot deposs
its are made,l penry being accep
ted wken tendered. This consti
tutes the record, A separate acount
is established when a pupil’s saving
has reached a dollar.” It is also
stated that the experiment was
tried at Long Island City four
years ago, and that the deposits
now amount to nearly $7,000,000.
There are sixty-two of these banks
in Liverpool, where the deposits
average 4 cents a week among the
children enrolled, but emall as this
amount is, ithas been pleasantly
apparent that the system has pro
duced a marked eflect for good up
on the social and moral life of the
pesple. |
One of the principal promoters of
this plan explains its purpose to
be that of*“‘teaching boys and girls, ‘
at a teachabe age, self dependence, |
forethought and frugality by thrift, |
Buch early instructions in cco
nomic ways should establish a hab
it of saving that, if not urged to
the extreme cf selfish getting ™ o~
gether of money for the sake of
money, caonot fal to have
good influence upon the moral nnd{
practical sense of youth growivg
into manhood and womanhood., A l
right undeistanding of money as an
agent might be inculeated hy jud.
cious encouragement on the part
ot teachers, who are really the
‘bankers’ in this case, beinxy the
ones who deal with the pupils hy
eard. That good results attend
the work Isindicated by the extent
to which it has been extended, and
the interest felt in it in various Eus
ropean countries and here in Amer~

Caution to Mothers.
Every mother is cautioned aginst
giving her child laudanum or par
egoric; it creates an unnatural
craving for stimuiants which kills
the mind or the child. Acker's
Baby Soother is spceially prepared
to benefit children and cure their
pains. It is harmless and contains
no opium or morphine. Sold by

And her voice with sorrow ringing.
*I shall not see my bridal day.’
This dramatic speech broke him up badly}
but when she explained that her apprehen
