The Farmers Prosperous.
This has been au exceptionally
:good season for the farmers of Geors
gia, says the Avgusta News. It is
_probable that they are more nearly
-out of debt than they bave becn
’t any lime since the war. About
all crops have heen good, the cotton
«crop particularly so, and the price
of cotton has been excellent since
the opening of the season.
‘The farmers, asa general thing,
Thave settled with their factors fully,
and have a great deal of cotton yet
on hand. ‘The merchants report
excellent collections, which shows
that the farmers have paid up their
obligations to the county store.
keepers. A member ot a large fer

collections this year were one-third
better than they had Leen in
previous years.

Appeal to the Conmision.
The only way, it seems, for
Dawson to have a long-needed des
pot building is to appeal to the
Railread Commission. The Cen
tral igrores all o our petitions
aud requests. and still nflicts on
our community a little rotten shan
ty for a depot building.
The Railroad Commissien will
take aliand in the creciion of de
pots slong the lines of the variouns
railroads doing business in the
State. They now require that ap
plications for lncation of depots
and constructions of depat buiid
ings must be filed in the Railroad
Conmission office with all fnforma
tions needed for a tull aud proper
undeistunding of ail interests to be
~flected therehy. They propose to
carry futo effect ihat law which
rakes it their duty “to require the
location ot such depots and the es
t-blishment of such freiglit and
paszenzer | uildings as tne condis
tion of the roads, the safety ol
freights and the public comfort
and convenience may lequire.”
This is a very lar e power entrus.
¢l to the commission, but the
characters of the men are agnaran
ty that it will not be exercized
arbitrarily to the oppression or
burden eof the companics. The
scniiment has taken strong hold
that *he public has rights that even
railrouds are bound to respeet,
while thewailroads should be pro
tocied in the enjoymeat of all the
rights to which they are entitled.

Don’t buy just for the purpose of getting a present. Take the goads
on their merit. If you don't think they are the best aud cheapest you
can get, don’t take them. Butif you do think so then take them, and
it you get a present you will be happy. If you dont you will be haps
py avyhow. Remember you must trade before the 4th day ot January
in order to geta chance at these presents. Very Respeettully,
