charley Melton is 1n trouble. He
was arrested Saturday on the charge of
’burglar.\'. and at his commitment trial
gaturday afternoon he was bound over
ander a $3OO bond, which he failed to
furnish, and he is now in jail,
At the commitment trial the follow-
Ing facts were brought out: It seems
that about a year ago Mr. Leopold
Daniel, the tailor, was making a suit of
sothes for Mr. A.F. Floyd. He had
pout finished the suit, and one morn
ne when he got down to his shop, then
ituated on Court avenue, the coat,
‘hich he had left with thesuit the night
efore, had been taken and there was
ot the slightest clue which would
ead to the identicy of the thief.

his shop, and Saturday morning Homer
Melton, a brother of Charley Meltol,
brought a coat into his shop to sell, of
fering it for seveuty-five cents. Mr,
Daniel at once reccgnized the coat as
the one which had been stolen from
him last year, and had young Melton
arrested.
Homer Melton said that his brother,
Charley, had given him the coat to
sell, and he was released and Charley
was arrested. Charley said that his
father had given him the coat, and
that he knew nothing about it. After
first denying that he had given fhe
coat to his son, the fathe said that he
had forgotten, and that he had given a
coat to Charley which he had taken
from a negro on a debt. The descrip
tion of the coat which he claimed to
have given his son did not fit the coat
which caused the arrest at all, and this
took away the last straw at which
Charlie was grasping.
After hearing the above evidence
Justice Wilder bound Charley Melton
over under a $3OO bond, which he was
unable to raise, and he will doubtless

Where Our Farme:(}ould Economize.
From the Marion County [latriot,
Mr. W. H. Sales began farming in 1872,
and at that time purchased seven back
bands, and he has not purchased one
since. He bought the leather and made
them himself at a cost of about 60 cents
each. These bands have been in use
constantly since then, and they havye
worn out seyeral good mules in the
meantime. He oils them several times
every vear, which is the life of the leath
er. A vlow hand will wear out about
two cotton bands a year, which cust
about 40 cents, which, in the last twenty
six years, would have cost Mr. Sales
about $75. It pays to buy the best in
the long run.

A press dispatch from Havana says:
La Lucha publishes a picture of Fort
McPherson and interviews which have
just been had with Colonel Cortijo and
Surgeon Garcia Julien, who were recent
ly given by the Americans in exchange
of prisoners. They express themselves
as very grateful for the attentions of the
officers in charge and also for tte kind
ness of the American people whom they
met.
On the other hand, they complain that
the American government treated them
as criminals and not as army officers, as
is done 1n other countries with prisoners
of war,
