Do you know Henry Lewis? No,

Henry told us of a good joke on
another negro. He (Henry) tonk
on just one drink too much Satur
day night and at a late hour went
to sleep, on the tront porch ot Mr.
Christie’s store. After he had
nearly slept off the effects of the
whiskey+he felt something going
through his' pockets and kind ‘o
opened one eye to see what it was,
To his great surprise it was a man
searching his pockets for money.
Henry considered it one of the best
Jokes of the season and could hard
ly keep from laughing. He said
to himself ‘whar did dis fool nig
ger come from? shorely he don’t
live bout here,” Henry was
afraid that some one would come
along and frighten the would be
robber. After the negro had gone
through all of Henry’s pockets and
could find no money he was look
ing around in the dark for a board
to give him a lick and run bes
cause he had thrownaway so much
time, But Henry raised up about
that time and being unable to long
er contain himselfbroke outwith a
big ha! ha! laugh and said ““I fool
ed dat nigger,” The robber left
for more lucrative fields.
