A few days ago Vv, L D Bowen,
who lives in the Eastern portion of
the county lost several head of hogs
from hydrophebia.: Several days
betore the hogs taken the fear
fuldisease a mad dog passed by Mr.
Bowens place and attacked a sowJ
and several shotes. The porkers
showed fight and led on by the old l
sow soon had the dogz down and
Mr. Bowen thought would kill |
him. But while the fight was pro-‘
ceeding a hoz would occasionally |
squeal and ran off until all of them
had left the field, They would
leave as soon as the dog would
snap them. The dog escaped with
hiz life but went only about half
a mile further when he was killed
by a negro. .
The dogz, it is said, showed signs
of hydrophobia and when Mr. |
Bowen’s hogs were taken and two
of them died, he knew that thei
two were mad, so heand his neigh
bors killed the others. Sinee that
time the whole neighborhood ig na- 1
eagy for fear that the dog or some
of the hogs bit some other hogs or
cattle. This is & heavy blow on
Mr. Bowen who is a poor man. It
bas only been a short time since he
lost his horse and now that his hogs
have all died he feels that fate
is indeed egainst him.
