The Weather —
It seems that the rear guard of
Winter, having been cut oft by Spring,
has just “brought up” and the little
"squad,” even though pressed on all
sides by the genial forces of the Queen
of Season, has been committing some
depredations in this part of the coun-

We learn from farmers that the
slight frost on Tuesday night killed
some vegetation —more or less-~in dif
ferent parts of the country, though we
believe but little damage was done.

Dr. Porter—
‘By reference to our columns, you
will see that this distinguished Physi
cian is to visit our city on the 21th icst.
We have only 8 or 10 doctors here, and
suppose there is room for one more, at
least, for a few days.
But Dr. Porter’s medicine don’t make
you feel as if you had swallowed a wad
ol worms, fastened to a fish-hook, and a
little boy at the other end of the line,
trying to pull them back. His remedies
are pleasant, aDd suppose them to be
effectual.
The Doctor has been in our State for
months, and if he is a humbug, the pco
pie have been slow to find it out. Rcad<
carefully the whole of Dr. Porter's doc
uments, advertisements and extracts
from tho Macon Telegraph and Sumter
Republican, also the supplement to this
issue of our paper.

Attention is called to the card of J.

space to say, that if our readers will call
on Mr. Pugh, they will find a pleasant
place to while away an honr, and see
such sights as wc of the country don’t
often see. If you wi.-h a pictured you r .

place than Pugh’s, Triangular block,

despaired of, and it was thought that he
must die. llis wife w.s immediately

side Having herself seen the beneficial
results from the use of Plantation
Bitters, she insisted upon their being
administered to him, whiteh wasdone, in
quantities prescribed by the attending
physician. The result was almost as if
by magic, and in ocesbaif hour from
the time they were given her hpsbar.d
was out of danger, and by a moderate
use of them three«t.r four times a

The Great Chill and Fevf.r
Remedy.— We call intention to the
certificate in another column in relation
to Dr. Wilhoft’s Antiperiodic. This
is no quack medicine, but is prepared
on scientific principles. It is a con
centrated Fluid Extract of Peruvian
Bark, deprived of that constituent
which produces the disagreeable head
symptoms. 'J his, combined with Iron,
makes the Great Kemedy. It has
proven itself to be almost infallible.—

Ore mere Slate can now be set down
among the doubting si. ters on the ques
tion of' the fifteenth patch on the consti
tutional coat of-many-ooiors. Thellbode
Rhode Island Legislature has postponed
its consideration till the May session,
whon anew Legislature will sit. It is
discovered that the fifteen'll patch, by
abolishing property qualifications, will
enfranchise some ten thousand pertonsin
that State who are now debarred from
vo'ing simply because they are p or
and w hi e, and these ten thousand would
be pretty suio to vote the Democratic
ticket, thus turniDo over the Slate,
which is now Republican by eight thou
sand majority. The Bhade Island
Radicals would lik3 to permit negroes to
vote, but they are bound to exclude from
the suffrage as many white D.mocrals as
they can.
Wo see no reason to suppose that the
reasons, now influencing tne sjlons of
the diminutive commonwealth, will be
id any sense removed by the heated
term to which the consideration of the
additional patch is deferred.— Mobile
Reyistcr.
The Democrats of Cleveland, Ohio,
have elected their candidates for city
officers by heavy mujoities. Their nom
inee for Mayor has over one thousand
majority— a Democratic gain of over
three thousand. The vote for Presi
dent stood tbust Seymour, 5,712; Grant,
7,811).

IS 'ill invariably cure all
.Hi as malic Levers, viz:
Chills anu Fever, or Fever and Ague,
Dumb Chills, Congestive Chills, or
Pernicious Fever, Bilious re
mittent Fever.
THIS is a remedy which has been used by the
author in the above named diseases for the
last ten years, with the happiest results. Kven
in those obstinate ease* in w hich Quinine, Ax*V
nic ox rrussiate of Iron had been used in vain,
tliin remedy effected a cure in two or three days,
without a relapse ever occurring.
The advantages that the Anti t’eriodic posses- ;
es above allreinedies of this class, consist in the J
fact: First—That it invariably breaks up the fe- ]
ver, together w ith the liability to return on tho j
7th, 14th, and 21st dayß* Second—That it does
not occasion any of the head symptoms, like those
produced by Quinine. And Third -That it can
be administered to children of the most tender
age, with impunity. L. W. Hunt & Cos., whole
