Mr. Elam Johnston writes us from !
Brown Station that Mr. J. G Ellison’s
Gin House was consumed by fire on
Saturday evening last, together with

Shooting Affiut. —On Thursday
evening last the quiot of our town was
disturbed by the rapid firing of pistols
near the hotel. On repairing to the
spot, having fully made up our mi.nd
to view the bloody corpse of some hu
man form, what was our surprise to
hear the cheering exclamation, “no
body hurt!” Upon inquiry it was as- j
co'rtaiqed that two' strangers within 1
our gates had Seen proper to' disagree, j
hence the shooting. They were, as
we learn, both Ex-Confederate sol
diers, and, as in war times, one j
stood up to the rack, whilo tho other
sought breastworks. One of tho gou-,
tlemon upon investigation was found to
So guilty of no offense against, the
law, save tho carrying of concealed
weapons. Judge Harrell entered game
just here, said it roquired a SSO note
to make houors easy, whereupon they
ware, immediately made easy. Tho
other gentleman “fought and ran

day,” provided Mr. Ilirrell does’nt dis
gust him with the business. What a
pity people will do wrong.

Atlantic Railroad whilst in possession

Railroad, shall not pay to any of the
late officers or to any of the
persons now claiming to bo officers of
said road, or to any persons appointed
by Rufus B. Bullock, late Governor,
as Commissioners to look into the af
fairs of said road, or to any other per
son whomsoever, any part or portion
of the said balanco remaining in their
bands. _
Resolved further, That the Treas
urer of this State, call upon late Treas
urer and other officers and agents of
the Western and Atlantic Railroad
immediately, and demand of them the
balancos of money so duo to tho State
as above set forth. _ l
Provided, that nothing in the fore
going resolutions bo construed as ex
pressing the sense of this House that
tho balances admitted by the said of
ficers and agents, are the real balances
due.

ter from Germany, ol which the following it
a correct translation—the ■ riginal of which
is in Dr. Bradfield's possession, aud can be
seen by any one who desires it. Verily, the
medicine is acquiring a reputation aa wide aa
