claimants of seats from South Caroli
na and Louisiana. In the House of
Representatives, wit chjias a laige
democratic majority, two radical

two democratic claimants from Louis
iana, were permitted to he sworn in,
subject, of course, to further investi
gation of their titles hereafter. In
the Senate, which has a republican
majority of about four , the credentials
of the two democratic Senators Iron
Louisaina were referred to the com
mittee on privileges and elections.
The debates- in the Senate have
been spicy md animated,Edmunds and
Conkling leading: on the republican
side, and Thuruiau'and Bayard on the
democratic.
Hr. McCrury, of Kentucky, intro
duced a bill iu the Senate to repeal
tkehaik:upt law. A bill lias, also
been introduced to authorize the coin
ing of silver dollars and making tin in
a legal tender. Mr. Beck, of Ken
tucky, introduced a bill, in the Senate,
io remove all disabilities imposed by
the 14th and 15th amendments to the
Constitution. Then* are atmu all tho

duced.

Sulem neighborhood is noted as one
of the most cultivated and re.igious
sections of our county, and with open
hearts they bade welcome to those true

work and pleasant' labor. Each day
a goodly congregation from the neigh
borhood met’ami added their cheerlul
voices with those mote skilled, in as
cription - of praise, and in relieving
the wants of the innerman. Sunday,
however, was tho grand day, and by
10 o’clock, at least 1200 people ftad
assembled to pat ticipate in. and be en
livened and enteitai- ed by the exer
cises of the day. The singing class,
composed of all of these teachers and
aided hy a large number of the lad es
: uf the vicinity, and such gentlemen
ns felt that they could sing, was under
the leaderehip of Prof’s W. F. Davis
and Jno. K Bigliee Ail that the
most eul'ivated ear could desire to
listen ti, and the sweet sor.gs of Zion
as warbled by them, cuusedeven the
o oot heedless to think and admire. —
The organ was presided on by Mr.
McGleadan,of Fort Gaines, who added
an cli to tire success of the occasion.—
The wiiter knows that it was pleas
ant, and he hopes it was piolitable to
be there.
At twelve o’clock, tho announce
ment was made that “Dinner in the
grove” was ttie next part of ther pro
gramme, and, on leaving the church
to fill his pait of the programme,
