Fire.—At about 12 o’clock on last
Saturday night the residence of Capt.

flames were discovered by some ne

the stove chimney of the cook room,
and before the alarm could be given,
all the rear portion of the house was
in a blaze, aud nothing could be done
to save the building The family,
assisted by a few friends, succeeded j
in saving all in the two front rooms, j
but a-large portion of the bed cloth

Another. — We learn, that, on
Sunday last, about 12 o’clock, the

I Editors Dawson Journal, Gents
J Please allow us space in your vala
j ble Weekly to tender our sincere
i thanks for the valuable assistance
j rendered us on the. night of our mis
fortune. We apprehend t Imt no one
j can properly appreciate disenterested
j acts of kindness until they, through
| misfortune, are made the recipients of
| them, and on the night of the burn
J ing of our dwelling we were made,
fbr the ifrflt time -in* our Dies, t 5 feel
our utter dependence and helpless
ness, and our hearts in the hour of
distress, were made to swell with
gratitude to all the kind piles of bdth
races who used their utmost ieseviioßs
in our behalf to save! what couldjie
from the devouring flames. We de
sire in this communication, as we
cannot personally thank each one
who aided us, to thank all, and I'6*
them know that we appreciate, to the
fullest extent, their kindness; and to
those of our friends who so kindly
tendered to us and our little ones,
who were helpless, the hospitality of
their fire-sides, we are deeply indebt
ed, and were made to feel that,
though unforamate, we were not
friendless; and were made to know
that lie who said that the avarage
American’s sympathy was expressed
briefly in the words “I am sorry for
you,” knew nothing of the citizens of
our own little Dawson. Our language
is too poor and words too feeble to
express what the hearts <jf sufferers
feel in gratitude to kindness. To the
will of the Great I Am, we bow in
humble submission, and feel now
more forcibly than ever inclined to
to obey the injunctions of our Savior,
and love our neighbors as ourselves.
Respectfully,
T. H. <fc A. E. Pickett.
