A Nuisance.
There are about half a dozen or
more ragged little negroes about the
right age to plow or hoe cotton, who
are constantly, every day and all day,
wrestling, wallowing and playing
marbles on our streets and side walks
much to the annoyance of merchants,
customers and everybody else. AA r e
have heard much complaint of it for
months past, but did not notice it for
fear of beingthought two censorious.
As we write, three of the little wretches
are playing marbles on the side-walk
over the way right between tworaillin
cry stores. A lady passed just now;--
they made no move to get out of the
way, but the lady had to pass round
them. AA’e are frequently brought
up standing right on the side-walk
by a pile of little negroes writhing
before us. The parents of the little
fellows, if they have any, should put
them at some better business, if they
ever expect them to be of any ac
count.
A\ T e think it well enough, during
the dull months of summer, to allow
cle-ks and others who have stores
to watch and business to attend, to
get all the exercise and recreation they
can, without interfering two much
with the legitimate uses of our streets
and walks, but think that those who
have nothing else to do but play,
should be respectfully requested to
operate on the many broad acres
convenient to the business part of
the town, and leave the streets to
their legitimate and proper uses.
