If you want nny mag::z : nc or other publication worth having send to them, or cull on their news agents on any passenger train on our railroad and you can be supplied St. Elmo.— We are Indebted t> the enterprising Mueon firm—Messrs. J. VV. Burk & Go., for this interesting and nietdy bound volume from 'he pen of M ss Augusta J. Evans, of .Mobile, A\ . The Exoei.siou.— Particular att< n tion is directed to the advertisement of the Excelsior Drug Store, of Dr. 0 A Cheatham, in another column Dr. C., has practiced in this vicinity a number of years, is thorougholy ac quainted wi li 'ho wants of the people «.f this section in tho drug lire , Ilis experience precludes the possibility of his being imposed upon try Northern dealers; hence his many patrons miy rest assured that all tlu-v ) urelrase at the ‘'Excelsior,” is of the right stamp. The Doctor has just received a com plete assortment of garden seed from an w b'lt reliable house—and can therefore furnish good, fresh seeds.— Give him a call. Savii You ti A’onky.- M< n< y nitty bo lost by a failure to retd Al xander & White's advertisement. Our read ers who visit M icon for tr.t ling pu - prises should never fail to cu I on their. They deal in the be t and most popu lar goods—are always up with the sea-on—and have gained an enviable reputation for fair dealing and liberali ty in prices. Besides it is truly n Southern firm—having a disposition to benefit this whol section, by the ur langemcnts they have for procuring good goo Is at the ve ylo ve t prices. Ca’l on, or send your orders to Alex ander &. White, Macon. “Wiliie White,” formerly ~f Dawson, ai lbe ghd to meet and servo his many friends in this section. S. W. It. R.—This railroad, oven at this dull season, h doing a “driii'tg” businies and its worthy officers deserve much creait for the efficient manner in which the enterpri-e is managed. Vll - Powers is decidedly the right man iu the right place', and we hope that he will remain iu his position as Engineer and Superintendent of the road. Our occasional tiipi over the road are invariably looked buck to as hours of pleasantry, especially when George Lunsford is along will his museum row frightening the children with his pet snake (a wooden one,) now rxkibi'.- ing to some aborigiuee of Ciffee county the wonders of the world in the shape of a painted wooden monkey. M issrs. Goo. Dasher, and Carson Cox, tho other conductors, lack no trait necessary to make up a complete gen tleman. In fact we know of no better « lection of men for this position than that displayed by the choice of con ductors on the S. W. li. R. Important Law —-Am mg the acts passed at the late seesioa of the Gergia Legislature is the following, iu relation to advertising: An act to require executors aud admin tstrators to advertise (he terms of their sales. ®£c. 1. 110 it enact- and by the Genital Assembly of tho State of Georgia, That hereafter executors and adminis trators, in advertising their sales, shall ttatein such advir Le neut the terms ts sale. Approved lOr ii December, 1866. Lffict op Advertising: — The rf ,pot ot aivortuiug in the Vickslnrg ones is thus illustrated : “A lady in the Times last week fora stray oow, and cow calne home next ®y, pawed down theoowpon fence, hoi owed till the milk maid came then * f pt off her own calf. Weather in Ohio —A letter from the interior of Ohio says : No finer winter weather than wo have had for the last three weeks need ho asked for. The thermometer has ranged from twenty degrtes above to three de"r es below zero, with an unu sunlly dry atmosphere.. if our win ter wheat, or the peaches, should he killed, it must be after this Such weather is a little hard upon feeders of stock, parlieu'arly as no wheat straw was saved last year, and that is gener ally preferred to hay for feeding cat tle. Lousianna Sugar Oho a. —The New Orleans Times says the sugar crop of Lousiaua this ’year will reach fifty thou sand hogsheads, against sixteen thou sand last year ; that only extraordinary obsticles will pnventa production of one hundred thousand next year, and the old average of four hundred and fif ty thousand hogsheads will be restored in three years. A sharp promising little boy, just learning te Wik well: ‘Fatte r an you going to see the rao t.-iay ! Father brightening up, ‘Wbat race, my son !’ “The human race,” was the astonishing response. Husband to wife—“ Mary Ann, that boy will he an editor yet.” Wife—“ God forbid.” A certain minister goiug to vi-.it ore of his sick parishioners, asked Lin how he rested during the i ight. “Ob, woundrous ill, sir,” replied ho, ‘f >r mine eyes have not come together these three uigbts.” “What is the reason cf :bat ?’ said the other. “Alas! sir,' says be, “because my nose was betwixt them ” That Ghost.—The ghost in Mrs. Surratt’s house is Major Ge lerul Bul lock, of the Frecdmeu’s Bureau, who lives in it. Similar g! oats are to be found hauntiog other piar.es. Too Shout.—A writer, who has b'en to both places, says lift is too short and uncertain to drink poor whisky or to make leve to ugly w rneo.
