A Bad Death —A sb, Wafer.-, wbo
bad been employed on a plantation in
ChHioun county the present year, while
walking to Dawson, accompanied by L:s
wife, on Saturday morning last, died by
tbo roadside when within abeut two
miles of the city. Wc understand Mr.
W, together with a number of other
white laborers, was secured at seme fac
tory in tbo up-country, and brought to
this section as field hands. Coming
from a mountainous, bcalthy country,
and from in-door work, it is natural to
etirpeso that they began to suffer when
tho warm season approached. This old
•nan, with his wife, we learn, had started
to wa k to Oglethorpe, whore they ex
pected friends to aid them in reacl.icg a
point South Carolina. But ala-1 their
companionship of many years was sev
ered by death in this melancholy inan

The man’s remains were decently in
terred by our citieens on Buodayq and
the bereaved widow enabled to proscout:
