Tars: Dub Notpce.— We ate re

that if they do-cot pay by Tuesday
next, levies will be made, and proper
ty advertised; as the Militaty Order,
which will be found in another column,

Girls.— This is far superior to anything of
its kind we have ever seen, and those thst
neglect to supply their sobs and daughters
with this gem, are certainly depriving them
of an uninestimable privilege to which they
are justly entitled to. A copy can be seen
at this office.
jy Among the new advertisotiKeate, will
be seen the card of our old friend, Dr. W.
H. Hodnett, who offers his professional ser
vice* to the citizens of Dawson and its vicin
ity. He"! do, and no mistake.
We also direct the attention of young men
to the advertisement of Miss Stunner.
C3T We call special attention of]
our readers to a notice in to-days paper,
of a Conservative Club Meeting. It is
a right move in the right direction, and
ovary nnyankeeized and honest white
man should attend, and enroll his name
among the law abiding chitons and
friends to the Constitution of 1776.
Come up white men.
Rake Sport for Dawson. —Our
young men enjoyed themselves yester
day in a regular snow-ball battie. No
body escaped them Unusual and cool
fun for this country. Clear and very
eold this morning.
The recent increased demand
for cotton, with imprvement in prices,
has plaood some littlo currency in eircu
lati on in our midst, and those men who
will promptly pay theirindebtedness will
be marked down as honest men, law or
no law ; and those that fail must ox
pect no more favors at the hands of their
•uffering creditors.
There are complaints of dc
gro depredations through the whole
of Southwest Georgia, which are chiefly
confined to the killing of stock.
tr Asa general thing, our farm
ers have curtailed their farms, and pre
paring to rai-e large graia ctops instead
of cotton, which is the best oonrse for
themselves, the country and the times.

JC9T When an intelligent strang.r
happens to be left perse in such a town
as Dawson where be is alike unknow
ing and unknown where there is no place
but bar rooms outride of bis business
for amusement to spend an evening. It
invariably happens that hissteps natural
]j lead him bo the cemetery what a sad
comment upon the intelligence and
refinement of our community would it
be in the mind of such a stranger. —
There has been an appropriation by
tho citizens for its improvement, but
unfortunately, our City Council alone
had control of the matter, and like the
enclosure around our Court House, we
have an unsightedly and illy construct
ed fence at an enormous cost, wbioh any
intelligent farmer would discard at and
condemn as an unfit enclosure for a
common Stock lot.
We are informed that tbe
bridge at Lee’s Tan Yard is in a dan

for parties interested to apply for a ie
aaoval of the ‘‘dry land” bridge spoken
of in our last issue to this place ?
Graphic Acconut of a WewVol
cano in Nicaragua.
A letter has been received by the
Secretary (if State from Hon. A B.
Dickerson, United State Minister to
Nicaragua, dated Leon, December 4,
1867, tn which he gives the following
graphic picture of the new volcano
that broke out in Nicaragua, about
8 leagues to the east of the city of
Le<«s c
Ou the morning of Novembor 22 d, I
went to the new volcano lor the pur
pose of observing it more closely,
though I had seen and heard it very
every day and right front Leon.
The best view which I obtained of it
on that occasion was bt-lore day ight,
from a Mountain summit, about one
mile northwest of the fissure, and at
right angles wKh rt. The main crat r
at the right was actively at work
throwing out flames and half me ted
cinders, through a circular orifice,
about sixty feet in diameter, which
was constantly fi led to its utmost ca
pacity with the ascending masses.
A regular cotie, built up entirely by
the falling cinders to the height of
about two hundred feet, had already
formed around the crater. The lim
of the core was white w ith neat, and
the outside was red hot for half way
down, while the remainder of its black
ground worts was glittering with innu
met able glowiug s| arks. It was puff
ing quite regularly about a second,
with a strong, constant blast, which
kept up a column of flame fi led with
flying cinders to the height of about
hve hundred feet above the mouth of
the orifice. Irregular expat-ions o-;-
urred at intervals varying from ten to
thirty minutes increasing thefoice nnd
volume of the discharges, and send ng
them far up into the rolling clouds
above.
Tire cinders went up in half-fused
' blazing masses from ooe to three tee;
in diameter, and came down upon the
con* hardened, striking with a clink
ing mt.talic sound. After duylight the
red appearance of the cone changed
to a bluish black. The left hund cra
ter was shoo ing out oblique riischarg
es of flame and ciuders of a similar
character at an angle of thir y five
degrees from the othe-, and evidently
common catod wi'«h it about a thou
sand feet below the surface, the two
craters being that distance af art, and
tioih discharging simultaneously. This
haft horizoatal crater was übout 20
feet in diameter. The volcano was an
active and interesting sight h r sixteen
days, and now, in its repose, alford* an
ample and instructive field for the g *o
logist.
