Tilt* Bankrupt Law.
The Bankrupt Law, snjs the Griffin
Star, allows twelve months to rlebiors
to file their petitions before subjecting
them to the payment ol bf’y cents on
the dollar. It is therefore important to
ascertain when it went into operation,
so as to determine when the time ex
pires. The 33d section and 138th
clause of the act declares—“ln all pro
ceedings in Bankruptcy commenced
after on* year from the time this act
goes into operati n, no discharge sha'l
be granted to a debtor whose awfetts
do not pay fifty per centum of the
claims against his estate,” &c. Then
it will be seen that year iw allowed
from.the time the act <joes into opera/i n.
Section 55, and general clause 175,
noys—“This act shall commence and
take effect aa to the appointment ol the
officers created thereby, and the pro
mulgations of the rules and general
orders, from and after th* date of its
apj roval—provided no petition, or
other proceedings under thin act, shall
be filed, received or commenced before
the first of June, 1867.” So the act
aa to the appointment of officers, and
the promu'gation of rules took effect
