Editors Dawson Journal:
You have aikod for the'facts in the
ease of Small-pox existing in (he per
son of Mr. Carlton JL Miller, o!
Millcrsburg, Ky. He has been stop
ping in this place for the past few week s,
during the time has visited Americus
For three or four days ..previous to un
seeing of him, had been a little sick.
On last Wednesday morning T was firs'
asked to see him and give my opinion
in regard to an eruption which made
its appearance during (benight previous.
Upon examining the eruption, and
hearing a description of his condition
for three or four days previous,l feared
he had smal!-"ox in some form, and
wishing to avoid the excitement and
confusion that usually follows the an
nouncement of such -m opinion, with
Lis consent and approbation, requested
his host to quietly remove h'm to a se
cluded room amf allow no intercourse
with him by persons who had never had
small-pox, to await the development of
the next twenty-four hours. At the
appointed time I again saw him, and
the developments were su -h that I pro
nounced his a case of Varioloid, (that is
small-pox modified by previous genuine
vaccination.)
lie was at once removed to a proper
place, and such quarantine regulations!
adopted as will, in my opinion, prevent
an - extension.of the disease. I think
before his removal tli it his ease had
nit hed the stage where it would
ikey nfeet others from -'rdtnar. ex
posure, and f co fiderp !y expect no
tli r cases; and that■ people m;y visit
Dawson and remain without the least
danger of contra,- 1 g the disease Mr.
'filler has no idea when or where he
contracted the disease As he pur
chased anew suit of ciothes a few
weeks previous, i is p 9 .6 hie that b
may have b-'- n infected by them,- as
they may ha-."- been made by some in
fected person 01 in an i,i e-'te room

or possibly on 'rain he came in
contact with some infected person or
garment.

As he had been genuinely vae.diiafed,
he only has it in it j mil lest or arioloid
form. In these and y of !:>> ravel and
general mixing up of people, none can
tell when they may come ia contact
wHt this loathsome, and to the unpr-
tected, dangerous disease.
It is due Mr. Miller, and it affords me
pleasure to make the statement, that
he has at all times cheerfully acquiesced
in any and all the means that I have
suggested to prevent any further spread
of the disease. He has been willing to
do any and. every thing in his power to
prevent the citizens ot Dawson and
Terrell eounty from having any trouble
or expense from his misfortunO. He
deserves, and I doubt uot has, the sym
pathy of all. A stranger, away from
home, let us make Lira fee! that he is
among friends and, though cut off' from
all associations atid from the kkjd arid
gentle attention and care of mother
and sisters, let us use all the nieans in

AGUE AND FEVER. “ '
Dr. C. McLane’s Liver Pills, in
cases of Ague and Fever, when
taken with Quinine, are productive of
the most happy results. No better
cathartic can be used, preparatory to,
or after taking Quinine. We would
advise all who are afflicted with this
disease to give them a fair trial.
For all bikous derangements, and as
a simple purgative, they are unequaled.
