The Columbas Southern.
The following concerning the
building of the C‘olambus and
Seuthern railread is from the Co-
Inmbus Erquiter-San. It will
be remembered that the JouvrNaL
gave mnotice some weeks since
that an engineering corps passed
throngh Dawson sarveying a line
for this road, but so they have
done from other points, and we
ara assured that the road will
build to the town offering it the
most encouragement, and we sny
it with emphasis that Dawson
cannot afford to lose the road. If
it is not built to this point it most
likely will be to Cathibert, and in
that ease would very waterially
give Cuthbery the advantage oyer
us as a tradinz point. The En
quirer-Sun says:
“Mr. G. Gunby Jordan leaves
for New York to-day, where he
goes in the interest of the Colum
bus Southern railroad. We are
not advised as to his plans, but
we violat: no confidence in saying
that on his retorn he will ba ‘abie
to tell the people of this eity and
of all the sections ard eomnuui
ties interested exactly what will
have to ba done by them to secura
the eaily construetion of this
road. _
There is vo quest oning the fact
that the Columbus Southern will
be a areat road for Columbus, and
that it will be built we have no
donbt whatever. DBut there is a
duty for our eitizens to perform,
and we are equally as certain that
they will vot fail to do it. No
syndieate will put their hands in
their pockets and build railroads
for communitias not in sympathy
with them. They must be mat
with a hearty co-operation, and
when thisis the case paying in
stilations will tind no difiiealty in
securing assistance. We do mnot
know whit amount our people
will be callod upon to sabseribe!
though it will be bat a minimum.
[hay eannot do wiihout tiie road,
and by the time Mr. Jordan re
tarns should have their minds
made ap as to what they will do
in the premises. The sams thing
will hold good so far as the cowm
manities south of us are concern.
