SIX MONTHS OLI .
Last week The Citizei/ completed
the sixth month of its age, and while
itH success has not been phenomenal,
its growth has been steady from the
very first number, and to day its pros
pers oould not be brighter. Once more
we beg leave to return our sincere
thanks to friends who have encouraged
us with so liberal a patronage aud such
kind wordB \ and while we have labored
hard to make The < itizen an accept
able visitor at the firesides of its read
ers, it is not what we want it or what
we intend it shall be, and now hope to
be able in the near future to put a new
dress upjn it, enlarge aud in every way
improve it until it shall be the equal
of any paper in the State, We are
aware that we have committed some
errors, but “to err is human,’’ and no
man may claim perfection. We shall
endeavor in the .future, as in the pr.st,
to commit as few errors as possible.—
Again thanking our patrons and friends
tor all their favors, we begin the last
half of the year with a renewed deteruu
iuation to do everything in our power
for he benefit, information and amuse
ment of our readers.
The At’anta Herald c aims that the
election of Fe ton and Speer is sure.

The Waynesboro Tuue Citizen
s vs that men from other Stales we v e
permitted to vote for Mr. Stephens,
still his friends sav there were no fraud
practiced in the Iasi eleciiuu.—At.auta
Critic," Oct-. 19th.
We sa/ The Citizen never said
any such thing. Wo said that “some
three or four persons from othur parts
of the State presented themselves at
the polls, and were allowed to vote for
governor.” State” this State,
the Sty.e of Georgia—not “other
Slates.” Neither did we tay that these
men ‘ were permitted to vote for Mr.
Stephens.” We said, they “were al
lowed to vole for governor.” We have
no idea who these men voted for, dud
do not believe the mana'gers of the 'eleo
tion know. We know the managers of
the election had no idea ot ‘ practicing
« fraud,” themselves or prermitting it
lo be done. We supposed they were
acting under a misapprehension of the
law, and published the paragraph re
ferred to, to c ill the attention of man
agers of future elections to what the
law really is, and by no means to charge
the managers of the late election with
“fr.iud” or any design of wrong. The
< ’ritic must be very dull of comprehen
sion to miscons rue so plain a statement.
