On last Saturday night a poor lit
tle innocent met its death while al !
of the household wore wrapt ii TIl2 HOUSS Of tfl8 30Uth.
) deep, and unconcious °f its fate.— j
Vhether it was walking in its sleep, 1
• r impelled by hunger, no one cat;
\ 11. It was most probably a desire
■ immon to the young, to eat at
’ ight.
There was a vat or cistern, of no
- rent size, but vast compared with
its little body, and this contained
enrfle white fluid or chemical mix
ture. In this the little thing fell,
and it is to be hoped that its dying
icvugples were not prolonged, as it
b too agonizing to contemplate the
young life passing away in hopeless
i-iruggles when help was so near,
and life in its early dawn so sweet.
' Ve draw the veil over the terrors of
bight, only remarking that the little
mie, lately 60 full of life and health,
and fun, was found in the morning
cold in death. The vat or cistern
into which it fell, and which was
half full of the white chemical mix
ture, ia sometimes called a milk jug.

A COFFIN AFLOAT,
Vicksburg, Jan. 29.—Early this!
morning a coffin was found floating
in the river at Delta Point, opposite
this city. It contained the body of
a young lady, handsomely dressed in
:i white rep silk dress, with a rich
I ce collar around the waist. The
dress and collar were as white and
perfect as when first buried. The
hce was much discolored. The cof
lip was the old style in use some
twenty years ago, heavily enameled
in white. It is thought that the
body must have been buried fully
fifteen or twenty years ago, and to
have f lien into the river at Lake
Providence or near Goodrich’s laud
ing, where re the cemeteries are cav
i 'g into the river. The body, after
b -ing viewed by a number of per
sons, was buried at Delta Point.
