Our young people are again under
obligations to Mr. and Mrs. W. E
Joues for another of those enjoyable
parties which they know so well how
to make pleasant, and which transpired
at the Arlington on Wednesday even
ing —St. Valentine's Day. 'Ihe party
was in honor of M»ss Li Hail Wilkins
and the young ladies proved the truth
of the adage that “beauty is most ad
ored when unadorned,” as they floated
through the mazy figures of the waltz
in their neat calico dresses, which was
the costume of all the dancers in the
room. The music was furnished by
Prof. Wallace, of Waynesboro, and
Prof. Hett, of Augus a, and as tbe
sweet strains arose and filled tbe room
as a perfume, we know of uo word to
accurately describe its effects except—
entrancing. At 9i o’clock tbe com
puny was invited to the diningroom
where they found the table loaded with
delieaees and beautifully decorated, and
were soon engaged in discussing the
delicious viands spread in such profu
sion before them. Supper over, the
young and light-hearted tetpsichoreans
again repaired to the dancing room, and
resumed the pleasures of the giddv god
dess, which held high carnival until
the “wee sma’hours,” when all retired
to their homes happy and satisfied with
the evening's enjoyment.

de.d murder was ciminiitled in
he same C’ U'itV last Friday i veaing.
The victim this time being an ill
ustrious, hard working negro, nam
ed Dallas, his would be murderer,
Lott Barvvick, is a young white man
who has heretofore borne the reputa
tion of being very quiet and orderh
not overbearing or contentious in
the least. He had been employed in
hauling timber for the negro, Dallas,
preparatory to rafdng it down the
river. When he had hauled about
half of it, ho quit from some un
known cause. Some one told Hm
the negro said unless he finished he
would not pay him for what he hud
hau ed. He asked Dallas about i'
md lie acknowledged saying it, which
ureatly incensed Harwich, who went
home and to'd his brothers. They
very wr >ng ! y toLl him f o again go
und demand his mourn •> a d if Dallas
refused, to kill him. Accordingly, the
icxt day, Barwick did as lie was told
md asked Dallas (who had employed
some one else to haul his tim'-er and
was on his way to the river, seated « n
a stick of timber), if he in-tended to
p«y him. Dallas replied in the nega
tive, whereupon Barwick told the
driver to move, and without any
warning drew his pistol and shot him.
The ball entered just below the left
eye and went through his head. Bar
vvick i» still at large. The physicians
say Dallas cannot live a week. Any
one who would give such advice to
a young man do not add anything to
society mid certainly have not the
welfare of the country at heart.
I get a good many State and county
apers, but do not receive one that
equals the True Citizen - for news and
neatness of printing or ohoice selections.
I see it is copied from more extensively
than any weekly I receive. Long may
it wave ! I sincerely trust it may re-
seiye all the success it merits aud that
is due a first-class weekly.
Not even a chicken fight has occur.-
red in the past week to break the mo
notony of the dull times, consequently
I have no news this week. I will fur
nish you some news next week if I haye
to let somebody whip me.
