“crushed Indian for breakfast.”—i
We area little curious to know how
the “red skin” is taken—whether on
soft toast or in blood pudding. We
hardly thought that the scarcity j
of provisions produced by the ter
ribly cold winter just past out on
the great Western prairies, from
whence the supplies of the “crush-!

had permitted the Indians to bo-j
come falT enough for table use. 1

For sometime past the Radical
leaders have terribly disagreed,
which disagreement finally culmi
nated in an ypen outbreak, and on
the 14th ult., as the date of his card
shows. Col. E. C. Wade, ex-Internal
I
Revenue Collector for this district,
addressed the notorious Captain
John E. Ryant a card in terms
more severe than polite, through
the columns of the Hava mi ah Xnrs.
To this severe criticism, Captain
Bryant replied in befitting terms
through the same channel in the
issue of that journal of the 80 th ult.,
and iu our opinion Bryant can just
ly claim the position of “top dog” in
the first round. Remembering the
old adage, “when rogues fall out,
* honest men get their dues,” we lay
the entire correspondence before
our readers without further com
ment :
“a card.
Savannah, April 14, 1884.
C<i/>f. John K. Jiri/ant:
Dear Sir—On my return from
Atlanta, a circular lias been put in
my hands which relates to you con
siderably. It is the old circular of
Atkins, Wilson, Clark, and others,
of 1877, published in nice pamphlet
form, and is circulated far an near.
It sets you forth rather vividly.—
You know what 1 mean. Another
one, I am told, is being prepared,
which will set you forth from the
time that Col. Atkins kicked you
out of the custom house in Savan
nah, in 1877, until the present time.
You have not held an office you
know, since that ever memorable
event, and 1 give it to you, as my
opinion that you never will again
hold an office of honor, profit, or
trust in Georgia. Your record is
too notoriously had.
“Fourteen months ago I was in
Gen. Grant’s room, at Willard’s Ho
tel, in Washington, and heard him
say that during his two terms as
President he became well acquaint
ed with you. lie said that General
Longstreet would not he removed,
lie said if Gen. Longstreet should
die or resign, you would not be ap
pointed in his place.
“You know 1 have stood by you
for years with whatever influence 1
had and my money. The money is
gone, and you are gone.
“You ought, in my opinion to
leave Georgia and not stand a day
longer in the way of the success of
the Republican party. White men
will not follow you, and colored
men will not follow you. Every
man white or colored, who knows
you well, either white or colored,
knows you to be a canting, ranting,
whining,snivelling hypocrite, going
about serving the devil under the
cloak of religion. Those men In
Atlanta and elsewhere in the State
who tolerate and indorse you do so
having no faith in the world in you,
and are utterly without confidence
in you. No man that over made a
track in Georgia is so cordially and
thoroughly despised as you arc.
“You are known everj where as a
tramp, a dead beat and a villian—- a
«most incorrigible liar. .lust think
of your sitting iu the parlor of Em
ory Speer, hi Washington, in my
presence, and telling him you
had done everything you could
do to elect him (Speer) to Congress
in the face of the fact that you had
taken a brib'd from the democrats,
and dill all you could to defeat him.
