“A finer day ne’er dawned o’er
land or sea.” The procession was
supplied with the greatest profusion
of flowers wrought into the most
beautiful designs by the fair hands
of our ladies, which were laid on
tlie graves of our dead soldiers to
commemorate their patriotism and
deeds heroism and glory. A very
attractive programme had been
formulated by the ladles of the Me-
1 modal Association, but it was
marred at the outset by the una
voidable and greatly regretted ab
sence of Col. T. Ik Folder, Jr., who
was to have been the orator of the
day, and from whose well known
ability and eloquence the large con
eoruse assembled promised them
selves a rich treat “of a feast of rea-
i son and flow of soul.” Indeed, it
j was a great disappointment. An
; eloquent and beautiful and appro-
1 priate prayer was offered by Rev.
Ik F. Breedlove, pastor of theMeth-
odi t church, the song “Decoration
j Day” was rendered in beautiful
j style and touching harmony by the
1 choir, led by that princess of sweet
j singers, Mrs. J. 1). Munnerlyn.—
Major W. A. Wilkins, with a heart
and head ever ready for any enter
prise or emergency, made a few
impromptu appropriate remarks ex
plaining the absence of the regular
orator, and paid a most graceful
tribute to the ladies who had so
greatly beautified the soldiers’ sec
tion in the cemetery. After tt
most impressive prayer, a solemn
benencdiction was pronounced by
Mr. Breedlove, anil the ceremonies
of Decoration Day was over, and
our iletid heroes were left to sleep
in silence and in peace with their
glory till the flowers come again
—Charlie Smith, our boot and
shoe maker, who has been sick for
sometime past, requests us to say
that lie is recovering his health and
hopes that his friends and patrons
will now bring their work, which
lie will do with his usual faithful
ness and promptness.
—We take pleasure in calling the
attention of our readers to the estab
lishment of an ice depot in'the city
by Mr. L. Cohen. He proposes to sell
ice at almost cost, and if sustained,
will continue his depot through the
summer. We hope he will be libe
rally patronized, as ice here during
the summer is not only a luxury,
but a necessity.

of the county, that the Franklin

and not as represented by you. As
you have sold a great deal of the
guano, and 1 having bought largely
of it myself, and in order to satisfy
myself anil friends as to the quality
of the guano, I had a member ot the
State Chemistry, General Thomas,
of Atlanta to come down and take
a sample of the Franklin guano to
aualize. 1 received an answer a
few days ago, in which he states
that tin* guano is all right and in
every respect up to the standard,
and contains the full amount of in
gredients as branded on the sacks.
This will probably afford you a great
dearof satisfaction, as it will those
who are using the Franklin guano.

flowery bonds of matrimony, at the
resilience of the bride’s father, on
last Sunday evening. May the aus

as holy balm upon the sorrows
they may encounter.

communicate the death of Mrs. S.
N. Tucker, of Summortown, the
wife of our zealous pastor Rev. S.
N. Tucker. May the consolation of

There happened near here on
