Editorx Chronicle:—As niy can
didacy for Solicitor General of the
Augusta Circuit was announced
through your oolufcins some months
ago, I presume it i.^only proper that
I should make known in the same
manner my withdrawal from the
contest. The local combination
that fought me, did so successfully.
The candidates for representatives
from Richmond county have been
carried against me. 1 shall not ask
support from other counties whim
my own county (or rather the prob
able representatives) refuses to sup
port me.
I wish only to emphasize the fact
tluit I was slicking professional not
political advancement. To my
numerous friends here and else
where who have given me their
good will and aid, I return my sin-
corost thanks. I never forget a
favor shown me. Respectfully,
AVm. II. IT,ICMJXG.
The above card announces the
withdrawal of Col. Wm. JI. Flem
ing from the candidacy for the
solicitor-generalship for this judicial
circuit at the next election for that
oilice, which will come before the
next legislature. While Col. Flem
ing will not, therefore, be our solici
tor-general, he is a gentleman of
tine talent and superior legal attain
ments, and with Ids habits of indus
try and attention to his profession
will not only maintain the honora
ble position lie now holds, tint will
surely take position in the front
rank of the eminent men of li^s pro
fession.
