The Survival of the Fittest.
WAYNKHHOUO.UA.. NOV. 7, 1SKI.
ter Wo are under obligations to
Judge II. E. \V. .Palmer for a pam
phlet copy of the governor’s message
to the legislature. We have not
had time to rend it, but shall do
so carefully as soon ns we have an
opportunity.
g,er\ few days before the election
Tien Butler said the si/.e of his vote
would surprise the country. We
are of opinion that if old Ben will
scrutinize his vote (it won’t take
him long) he will be somewhat sur
prised himself.
_ The Swaiuesboro Ilemizer
asks how much the Dorris’ circus
got us for. We can only account
for the simplicity of this question,
by a journal usually so shrewd, by
knowing that tne regular editor was
absent. Does the young pencil-
pusher, pro tern, suppose we are a
Vanderbilt?
Much important business will
1 come before the legislature during
the session. The state finances
will occupy much of its time, and
consideration; the capital question
must bo settled, while the public
road laws need attention and revis
ion. The sale of the state road will
doubtless come up, and this
question is one of the most impor
tant to the people which will come
before the legislature for its delib
eration. We are satisfied that
schemes have been perfected to
force the sale of this property, but
we have confidence in the honesty
of our legislature to believe that
they will not consent to sacrifice this
splendid property of the people of
the state at the bidding of any clique
or syndicate.
The appointment of tax assessors
for each county is an important
question, and one which wo do not
think the present legislature should
ignore. There are men whose prop
erty is very valuable when a pur
chaser comes to buy, but very
worthless when the tax receiver
comes to assess the tax. A remedy
should be found for this discrepan
cy, and we know of no other way
to find it, but by the appointment
of tax assessors.
Therefore, taking all those things
into consideration, the present leg
islature will have much important
work to do, and looking to the
whole make up of the general as
sembly, we are satisfied that it is
composed of superior talent, and we
are satisfied to risk their integrity.

CLEVELAND IS ELECTED
—“GLORY HALLELU
JAH”—HURRAH !
From the election Tuesday to late
Thursday evening, the dispatches
were very conflicting—long were
the people held in suspense. But
on Thursday evening—the news was
received and tho clouds of doubt
rolled away leaving a clear sky,
and announcing the overwhelming
defeat of Blaine and the triumphant
election of Cleveland. “Wo have
met the enemy and they are ours!”
From the moment of Blaine’s
nomination we felt confident of
victory, and have never wavered
in our faith, and the result proves
that we were correct.
The Radical leaders have exhaus
ted all their equanimity to find
something to reverse the decision
of the people, and another
TILDEN SWINDLE
was expected, but conclusion was
too plain, and at last the Republi
can leaders acknowledge their de
feat. The latest dispatch says that
that hoary old sinner,Jay Gould has
telegraphed his congratulations to
President Cleveland. The ltads die
hard.
Radical rule is broken, and their
defeat is annihilation—their party
will never come into power in this
government, but will fade away
like a morning fog, and honest gov
ernment will once more be inaugu
rated. The country may now con
gratulate itself that the war is at
last over, the nation is one united
people! Let the nation rejoice—the
“bloody chasm” has forever been
closed.

Atlanta, Ga., Nov. 7.—Both

Georgia have adjourned until tho
members can be collected together.
Atlanta is being painted a carmine
color. Brass bands, followed by
yelling people of all classes and ages
are parading the streets; bells are
ringing, whistles are blowing and
wild pandemonium prevails, while
business is suspended. The cause
of it is because Cleveland is elected
president. So mote it he, so that
thieves in Federal offices in the
South are put out and forever.

Mil. Kditou: No doubt you will ho sur
prised to have a totter on bee culture, as your
paper Is neither agricultural or apleultural,
hut I believe The Citizen means to bo for
the Interest of the people. My object In wrlt-
tlnff tlds letter is to advocate bee culture.—
From my experience, though limited, 1 be
lieve wo have u great climate and county for
boo culture, provided fogylsm Is laid aside
and tlie improved methods of apiculture em
ployed. Our fathers, grandfathers and great
grandfathers all kept bees, tail Iu this enter
prise, like all others, we are loth to depart
from the old way, mill consequently wo make
no progress In scleuue and are over behind
the times. Last your 1 had two colonies In
old box hives, In May and June I transforod
them to movable comb hives, which of courso
was criticised and disapproved by my friends,
all alledglng from different reasons that bees
could not he kept In such a hive. I now have
fourteen colonics in lino condition; 1 always
know the exact condition of every hive; If
the queen Is lost; If troubled by worms, or
stores short; I know It at once, und In either
ease know wlmt to do. With the old box
hives we cun do nothing, which Is the do
nothing theory. From my hives this season
1 have taken one hundred und sixty pounds
of honey, unit mu suru with proper cure and a
thorough knowledge of the business, that
much mure than tills cun lie produced. I had
no natural swarming, but made line artllleal
Nwurnia, which Is u success. Now why will
it not pay handsomely to keep bees? Wurun
buy a colony In good condition with hives fur
five dollars, tills colony will make from fifty
to one hundred pounds of honey, which Is
worth from fifteen to twenty cents per pound,
It will east from one to three swarms, which
will yield ubout the saiiie amount of honey
as the old. There could he a great deal more
said Iu behalf of bee culture, hut us your
space, I suppose, Is limited I will have to
conclude this article, hut hope enough has
been said hi behalf of bee culture to euuse
your rcudci’i. to took further Into the subject.
