Black Small-Pox. Mr C«w<li>
Ottawa, Ont., N'qvRmber 28.—
In Tweed village the black 'feniall-
pox; is Increasing. The farmers In
the neighborhood have purchased
a full supply of provisions, built
fences around their houses and
closed their doors against neigh
bors, for fear that the scourge will
be carried into their families. Pa
tients aro neglected and left to dio
without assistance. In the village
of Haco business is entirely sus
pended, and the village is cut off
from the outside world.
An Kxploaloa of Hockets.
Newcastle, Pa., Nov,- 23.—Dur
ing a Democratic jollification last
night an explosion of rockets oc
curred, which resulted fatally to
three persons and seriously injured
a number of others. When the ex
plosion occurred rockets shot in
every direction, and the wildest
excitement prevailed. Douglass
Mcllvenny was struck in the chin
by a rocket, and when picked up
the stick was found protruding
from the back of his neck. Jos.
Moody, aged 12, was struck in the
chest and fatally injured. Daniel
Gunley, aged 13, was struck on the
right thigh. The rocket entered
his right hip, and he was also in
jured internally. Louis Block,
Charles Shaffer, and William War
ren were all badly, but not fatally,
injured, and several others were
bruised and trampled upon in the
panic following the explosion.
doing llown to Washington.
President-elect Cleveland and his
immediate party, says a Washing
ton special, have engaged quarters
at the Arlington from the last part
of February until March 4, The
quarters assigned to him are the
same that have been occupied by
Bom Pedro, the emperor of Brazil;
Don Carlos and the Grand Duke
Alexis. Mr. Roessle, the proprietor
of the Arlington, who has just re
turned from Albany, where he went
to make arrangements fop the re
ception of the president-elect, says
that he found Mr. Cleveland in the
most tranquil mind about his future
work here. He questioned Mr
Itoessle about current affairs in
Washington, and gave him to un
derstand that he should come on
here to stay about Feb. 25 next.
Another gentleman, who has had a
recent interview with Mr. Cleve
land, said to-night:
“The small fry in the government
service need not worry about their
places; Mr. Cleveland will not be
in any hurry about changes. He is
a very conservative man, not given
to any rash judgments. He will
overhaul the departments as a mat
ter of course. He wifi place Demo
crats in the leading responsible
positions, but he has no sympathy
with the old spoils system, and in
that will give the Republicans a
good example. The panic among
the government employes here is
beginning to subside.”

Mrs. Sarah E. Turner and her
mother, Mrs. P. E. Bryan, for nine
teen years residents of Humboldt,
Tenn., make the following state
ments as to the merits of Swift’s
Specific. Mrs. Turner’^ case is well
known in that community: She
says:
“I was afflicted for two or three
years with eczema and erysipelas
combined. My whole system was
broken down, my strength and ap
petite gone, and I became as help
less as a child, being lifted from
place to place by my friends. I
was treated by the best physicians
in the community with iodide of
potash and the other usual reme
dies for such cases. I was given up
to’die by my friends. My suffer
ings were beyond description, and
I had lost all hope of recovery.
Last January I was induced to try
Swift’s Specific, having received
a pamphlet from the company de
tailing its merits. The first half-
dozen bottles had the effect to bring
back hope to my heart, and the
thought of being well again brought
joy and gladness to the household.
I have taken altogether 24 bottles.
The sores have all healed up and
disappeared; my strength has re
turned, and I am able to do all
kinds of house work. Swift’s Spe
cific, I honestly believe, snatchod
me from the grave, and I do not
know how to be grateful enough
for my recovery.
Mrs. Sarah E. Turner.”
I know that H. S. S. has saved my
daughter’s life. She was the most
wretched looking object that I ever
saw when she commenced taking
it, being perfectly helpless. I thank
God that wo ever heard of It. It
has saved my child.

Since- the settlement of tills country It 1ms been the aim of Physicians to secure a medi

Many other remedies have been suggested and tried—some of them good—but, as a gene
