Klrtl or LnU Burst.
Atlanta Constitution.
A few days ago a number of gen
tlemen assembled in tbe pftrlors of
the young men’s library to witness
the magnetic powers of Mrs. Cole
man, the rival of Lula Hurst. Mrs.
Coleman returned from New York
two weeks ago, looking much" im
proved. She is larger than Lula
Hurst, and is an exceedingly hand
some and attractive lady, being in
that respect unlike the magnetic
maiden from Collard Valley. She
was becomingly attired, and gave
every indication of being a lady of
refinement, A mong the gentlemen
who called to witness the exhibi
tion were several prominent citi
zens of Chicago.
Mrs. Coleman proposed to do
anything that Lula Hurst does.
The tests were make in an uni
form way, but the exposition of the
strange power was quite interest
ing.
Mr. Burton Smith, like his broth
er, Mr. Hoke Smith, is a skeptic in
tho matter of magnetic girls, was
the first to put his muscle against
the force.
He took a seat in a chair, and
firmly braced himself and held on
tightly.
Mrs. Coleman placed the palms of
her hands against the back of the
chair and held them there a mo
ment, smilihg while the company
looked on with interest.
In about ten seconds the chair
seemed to bteoome vivified. It rais
ed up on one leg. It hopped up on
another. It jumped forward. Mr.
Smith struggled. It made a big
lunge, and he was landed on the
floor red in the face > from exertion,
while the fair magician smiled as
sweetly and serenely as a May
morning.
“Just like Lula Hurst,” said Mr.
Smith.
“How’s that?”
“Same force.”
“Muscle ?”
“That’s a different question.’
“Electricity ?”
“My judgment Is reversed.”
Another gentleman took the
chair, caught a good hold, and
seemed determined to control it or
perish .in the attempt. But the
chair went over with; such force
that one of the legs was snapped
off.
The next trick tried was the stick
trick. A gentleman took a stout
stick in his hands, grasping it firm
ly, with Ins. hands about fifteen
inches apart. Mrs. Coleman placed
her open hands on the stick. Her
fingers were not even closed around
it. Suddenly the stick began to
tremble, it moved, it jumped, and
> an instant was wrested from the
gentleman’s grasp and sent flying
across the room.
The stick was then placed with
one end on the floor and the other
firmly held by a gentleman. A
young man attempted to move it,
but failed. Mrs. Coleman then laid
her palms against the stick, and it
flew up.
These tricks were repeated to the
entire satisfaction of the company
that there is something exceeding
ly mysterious about Mrs. Coleman’s
power.
The famous umbrella trick has
never been tried by Mrs. Coleman
but it will be tried in a lew days
and there is considerable interest
as to how it will turn out.
It is probable that Mrs. Coleman
will appear atDeOive’s before long
under the auspices of the Young
Men’sflibrary.

Lou Jameson, section boss on the
