I have a little daughter seven
years old, who for the last four
years has been afflicted with a pe
culiar skin eruption on the face and
one hand. I have tried seven or
eight physicians, among them the
best in California and in this pro
vince, but to no purpose. The child
kept growing worse. Fortunately,
I saw a statement in a St. Paul,
Minn., paper of a cure of a disease
similar to that of my child. It was
affected by Swift’s Specillc. I se
cured six bottles and commenced
giving it to my little girl. In ’ess
than one week this terrible disease,
which bad baffled all the known
remedies within reach, began to
disappear. She has been taking it
three months—is perfectly well,
and her skin is as clear as wax.

The Chicago Driving Course is to
be sold by the Sheriff to satisfy judg
ments against it. The past season
was a disastrous one. The Sunday
racing proposition alienated thou
sands of Sabbath-respecting people,
and this, with the extended pro
gramme and rivalry with Wash
ington Course, cut down its reve
nues. Many of the trotting and
running purses were not paid.
Oreenesboro Herald: Our friend,
Dr. J. F. vValker has been suffering
for sometime with a severe attack
of intercostal rheumatism. He
tried numerous remedies and at
last resorted to a simple applica
tion of cold water. The application
was effected by means of a satu
rated cloth bound around the affect
ed ribs, and this cloth was covered
by dry cloths. The application
gave immediate relief and the
rheumatism disappeared. This
remedy is a simple one, and the
doctor kindly recommends it to
those suffering with it.
Every farmer should raise his
own horses, provided he has the re
quisite taste and qualities of a gen
uine horseman. Every stable ought
to be provided with one or two
young colts growing into future
usefulness, or to replace the old
team when worn out in the service
of the farm. When a neighbor
hood of enterprising farmers gets a
reputation for raising good horses,
it will not be necessary to go abroad
to look for customers. The most
valuable horso will always bo a
roadster, and next a good work or
carriage horse. The proud and
lofty gait always denotes high
breeding and will always bring
more for any use. In fact there are
hundreds of farm horses worth for
actual service as much as the best
fancy horso ever foaled, but will
not always bring as much as a horse
of fine stylo and action and the lat
ter should always be the qualities
aimed at by the breeder.

The subject of color among horses
is an Interesting study, and there is
more than fancy in it. Deep bays
and browns, with black points, are
in th« greatest demand, because the
coat Is so easily kept clean, its rich
ness pleases the eye, and they pos
sess the concomitants of endurance
and longevity. A black horse is
not held in such high esteem, and
yet many a superior animal wears
a coat of sable hue. It has been
said by gatherers of statistics on
the subject that chestnuts have good
constitutions, but are often high
tempered, while the black or red
roan wears well and Is not moved
by every shadow that crosses his
path. The piebald and soft colors,
with white markings, do not find
favor for racing or general pur
poses. It is also noteworthy (hat
few gray or white horses wear the
laurel wreath in the best company.
As the trotting records stand to
day the queen is a chestnut and
her predecessor was a bay. The
rival stallions Maxey ('obb and
Phallas, are bays, and the retiring
champion, Smuggler, is a brown.
The best yearling, 2-year-old and
3-year-ohl performances belong to
youngsters of blooded hue. But
Elvlru, who lately deposed the bay
lllly Bonita as ruler of the 4-year-
old record, is a black. Among the
pacers which have beaten 2:18 in
harness, wo find the unapproach
able Johnston Is a solid bay; Little
Brown Jug Is a beautiful brown, so
is Rlchbull. Sleepy Tom Is a dark
chestnut and Buffalo Girl a bright
bay,
