A man in Lewiston, Me., recently
bought a cow from a local cattle
dealer. Some one jokingly asked
him if lie knew that the cow was so
old as not to have any front teeth
in her upper jaw. The man went
home, and upon examination found
the upper front teeth missing, and
promptly returned the cow. It was
with some difficulty that he was
mnde to understand that cattle
never have any upper front teeth.
Montezuma Jlecnrd: There are
many land owners in Georgia who
own hundreds of acres of land, and
that is about all they have besides
their annual tax receipts. What
Georgia, and Southwest Georgia in
particular, needs is more farms,
smaller farms, better farms and
more people, better schools, more
tax payers, more church goers, few
er loafers, and considerably less
whisky drinking, and some manu
facturing enterprises. Sell small
tracts of land. What does a man
want with two or three thousand
acres? As long as the land owners
refuse to sell to small farmers, just
so long will they be tormented with
free negroes and no money at the
end of the year.
The Blood ortho Trotter.
A correspondent of the Western
Sportsman, writing upon the above
subject, says: “There seems to be
quite an extensive controversy
among breeding experts regarding
the source from whence comes the
speed of the trotter, and as I am a
beginner in the business, and wish
to make a correct start, and avoid
all mistakes, I have concluded to
commence with a pacer. First, be
cause the pacer Blue Bull, from in
ferior mares, heads the list as a
producer of 2:30 trotters. Also the
pacing blood predominates in a
large number of other fast ones,
among which is the King and
Queen of the turf. Also Pilot Jun
ior, which Dr. Herr says was a
square and resolute trotter, and it
is also a notorious fact that Pilot
Junior mares are held in higheres-
teem by breeders of trotters than
the produce of any other stallion.—
It is also still more notorious that
his sire was a natural pacer. Some
writers recommend the thorough
bred, but I fall to see the point. We
will take the record, and as far as I
have examined it, I find only one
horse sired by a thoroughbred with
a record of 2:30, and in this instance
this same pacing element was pres
ent in the blood of the dam.
Relief from Malarial Poison.
For six months past I have been
affected with a very serious case of
typhoid malaria, which I contract
ed on my orange grove in north
western Florida. I tried several
remedies, but everything failed me.
Two weeks ago i purchased a bot
tle of Swift’s Specific, which has
proved a sure cure for this dreadful
malady. I had almost given up
hope of ever being well again, for I
had tried so many remedies, all of
which had failed to do any good.
Would to God that all the afHicted
people residing in the malarious
counties of Georgia, Florida and
AJabaipa would read this and try
thoJB. S. S. instead of dosing them
selves with quinine and mineral
remedies. I feel it my duty to suf
fering humanity to write this cer
tificate, for it may be the means of
many of my old friends trying this
great remedy as I have done. So
strong is my faith in it that in every
case where the directions are fol
lowed I will guarantee a sure cure
or forfeit one hundred dollars.

“It is a Wonderful Bkmedy.”
For many years my blood was in
a bad condition, manifesting its
character by a scrofulous breaking
out on both my ankles, which caus
ed me considerable suffering as well
as great annoyance. Seeing the
name of Bev. Jesse II. Campbell, of
Columbus, Ga., uttached to a certifi
cate concerning a euro by Swift’s
Specific, I wrote to him about tins
remedy. His reply was that “It is a
wonderful remedy.” I tried It and
found the action very much as de
scribed in the directions. I used
ubout ono dozen bottles, observing a
steady and almost daily improve
ment from the start. I was entire
ly cured of tills disagreeable and
distressing disease. That has been
nearly a year ugo, and I find no
signs of the disease returning, and
am ready to testify with Bev. Mr.
Campbell that Swilt’s Specific “is a
wonderful remedy.”

Malarial Poisoning.
Al’l’blNG Ga., July 3d, 18«4.
Dr. Edward Barry, Augusta, Ga.:
Dear Sir— For several years after coming
home from the war, I was a constant sullbref
from chills nnd fever. 1 tried a number of
remedies, but obtained no permanent rdlel
until I useu a couple of bottles of your Mala
rial Antidote, but I think one would have
answered the purpose. Brad. Ivy.
I lmve used Dr. Barry’s preparation for the
cure and prevention of chills and fevers with
much success and satisfaction, and confident
ly recommend it to the public for the radical
cure of this disease. A. J. Avery.
Columbia, Co.-, May 1, 1878.
Dh. Edward Barry:
Dear .Sir—It gives me pleasure to state to
you that the bottle of Fever and Ague medi
cine received from you lias cured my little
f ;lrt of chills and fever (who bus bad them at
ntcrvals for eleven months), when the doc
tor's quinine und other chill medicine failed
to do good. And would advise all who have
cases of protruotod ehtlls and fever to give
your medicine a trial at least, both for their
own good nnd the patronage that the medi
cine deserves. Respectfully yours,
Norwood, Ga., Oct. 12,1881. V. II. McGintt.
