Martin's VAr.iiKV, Pa., Aug, 1<>,
—Mrs. Barah Truby, an aged widow,
lived with her sons, John a break-
man, Jason, a slate worker, and
Wyman, a miller. Friday evening
John fell into a cattle guard on a
track and broke his neck. (Satur
day Jason was drowned in a pit at
the quarry, heavy rains having
covered the vicinity with ivater,
hiding the pit. While messengers
were bringing in tbe news of these
deaths to Mrs. Truby, they met a
crowd carrying Wyman’s body out
of the mill. He had been suffocated
in a grain bin. Tbe shock caused
by deaths of her three sons has
nearly killed the old mother.

Worms Feeding on a hiring Itody.
Marshall, III., August 18.—One
of the most terrible cases of suffer
ing on record is reported from
MeKeen, six miles east of here. On
August 6th Davie Black, aged 11,
was thrown from his horse and his
arm was broken in two places. An
unskillful physician set the arm,
leaving one of the bones protruding
from the flesh. Mortification set in
and soon spread to the shoulder anti
body. The mortified arm was left
exposed by some means, and last
Wednesday worms began working
at the flesh of the living boy. After
suffering most awful agonies for
five days, and having his arm near
ly eaten away by worms, the suffer
er died Sunday night, and his re
mains were buried at once. The
surgeon has been warned to leave
the county.

Noticing that Captain W. IT.
Harrison, of the executive depart
ment, had been relating some of
his war tales to a Constitution re
porter, we asked Sam Everett if lie
could not give us an incident of his
experience in the Valley of Vir
ginia. Sam said lie wasn’t much
on yarns unless he had some of the
old 31st Georgia to laugh at them,
but he would venture to give us
one.
Gordon’s division was encamped
on a thrifty farm which was fenced
only with pine rails, something un
usual in that section of country.
General Gordon knew that his men
were obliged to have wood to cook
with, so he issued an order for them
to use only the top rails, and under
penalty of severe punishment not
to disturb any others. Next morn
ing when the general awoke not a
rail was left to show where this
fence had been, and the captains
were ordered to report at once as to
the disobedience of the order.
Among others Captain Harrison,
of the 31st, handed in his report. It
stated that he only allowed one
man at a time to go for rails and
that each one took a top rail, acting
strictly in accordance with the gen
eral’s orders. Of course the last
men to go found the top rails at
the bottom. General Gordon made
ft soldierly bow and announced
that the investigation had ended.

A queer craze has broken out in
Georgia which is creating consider
able excitement in the northeastern
portion of the state. A special dis
patch from Marietta gives the fol
lowing particulars: “The north
eastern portion of Georgia is a vast
Holiness camp. The question of
sanctification has been vigorously
preached until now it is not enough
to he a Methodist, hut perfect free
dom from sin must he professed as
well. The Rev. W. A. Dodge and
the liev. William Parks are apos
tles of this now doctrine, and under
their preaching numerous faith
cures have been disputed by the
doctors. The recent suicide of Hie
Rev. M. D. Turner, who declared
that lie had lost the faith, lias in
tensified the feeling. At a meeting
at Mount Zion last week, some re
markable statements were made.
A curious feature was the presence
of Mrs. Mary Scrogglngs, who
arose and stated that she was 101
years of ago. Ninety-five years ago
she joined tlio 'Methodist church;
seventy-five years ago slio profess
ed holiness, since which time she
has never hud even the inclination
to sin. She ascribed her long life
to a firm faitli that she would not
die. Mrs. Scrogglngs lives f> miles
from the church, which distance
she regularly walks every Sunday
and on prayor meeting nights. Sho
looks and acts like a well preserved
woman of 4ft.”
